TStael: Bit of transparency please. What was wrongly said, pray tell?
this thread is about respect for the dead
not censor ship
nor petty political games or "head canon" nonsense

if you cant bring up the good courtesy to the departed not to discuss this in a thread like this
then i will simple refrain from responding to you here in this thread as of now

You know - maybe Harper Lee gets soon "Huckleberry Finn" edition.

That would be censorship - and not respecting her work.

Which I do.

You really Dutch, btw?

Edit: PS - still what did I say exactly to make your exception? Please quote me proper, so I could reflect upon it,

TStael: "Head-canon."

When the independents (*) of this world try and explain the Watchman "controversy" it really boils down to head-canon about Atticus Finch.

Only when the head-canon is oppressive it becomes a "controversy*.

snowkatt: can we NOT do thsi here please ?
You've been here long enough to know she can and will turn anything into a flame war. She doesn't come in here to discuss, she comes in here to belittle people. I once told her I totally agreed with her and she told me off for it. :P

Really? About what, I wonder.... Should you have been sincere, and I a dick, I am sorry.

I mean what I say, and would prefer if even a person would find it ok.

But I will not disrespect Lee by assuming her work was "make nice." It was true.

timppu: Damn it! Another one bites the dust. People just keep dying around me.
Turun Sanomat lately, timppu? Bothered me some terrible.
R.I.P. Harper Lee.

Having couscous in ears does not help with headache. That much is certain, almost irrevocably so, or so does.

And you? Had to be think do what or? Else? Could be not?

Oooh - more drunk than I, I take it, eh Timppu? :-)

And I hope it bothers you that I still think Finns mostly are quite well educated, and with a certain humanity.

Plus feel no need to be cutesy about Harper Lee. I respected her art already when she was living. Her death changed none.
R.I.P.
RIP, both her and Umberto Eco. Head-Canon about Atticus Finch aside, I really enjoyed To Kill a Mockingbird, and it's so awesome to see so many people here who also respect both her and her work.

To be honest, while I did like the book, the story really came alive to me with the fantastic 1962 movie adaptation, and I really urge people to see it if you're curious about her work and haven't read the book.

Which also reminds me, the movie version of The Name of the Rose was something I also really enjoyed (my high school history teacher showed it to our class as part of our medieval history unit, and it stuck with me ever since). I've got to get started on reading the book.

Timppu, I think I can always take you playfully - and I do. So I am smiling, as I think you needs must to be able to write a coherent sentence then and again. What was it: "syövät kaikki kalat verkosta, ne karvaiset läskiperseet" or whatnot...

But please reflect on Aleksis Kivi, and Timo K. Mukka.

Both were assassinated living by critics that represented established good taste, yet are now accepted as Finnish Literature par excellence, and birth date of Kivi is a flag day of Finish literature in Finland. (pretty hypocritical)

Both could have created so much more. Assailant criticism had more to do with it than honest admiration, I find.

And let it be said: I pitch "Seitsemän veljestä" of Kivi at par with the old translation Finnish Bible - both total masterpieces!
