she died today in monroeville alabama
It's really sad.
I have never heard about her before (I just googled her name).
Also I misread this thread title as Herpes Lee Dies Age 89.
May her soul rest in peace.

How far out in Other are you living that you never heard of Harper Lee?

She was an American author who only ever published one novel (two, if you count the early version of it that was released as a separate "sequel" last year), and the setting and subject matter, while still relatable, might not strike nearly as deep a chord with some audiences outside the U.S.

And she was a bit of a recluse when it came to talking about the book(s), so it's not like she had a 40th-anniversary appearance on Oprah or anything like that.
Nice, an argument breaking out. :P

Good thing Michael Creighton didn't die.

Oh wait...
What argument?

And at least it wasn't Roger Ebert...

Ok, you make a good point, but I need you to define a weird term you used for me:
What is "outside the U.S."? Sounds strange to me.
Did anyone here read "Go Set a Watchman"? Any good?

I didn't, but it generally got panned. I think they said she took Atticus Finch and basically did a 180 with the character.

Or Robbin Williams

That's Michael Crichton.

:P
Reminds me that I still have to read "Go Set a Watchman".

R.I.P. Harper Lee.
