The Belgian government, the French government or a French senator, and now the state of Hawaii are looking to make loot boxes and microtransactions in video games gambling or downright illegal.

Here's one about the state of Hawaii and also looking to make the other 49 states to also get into it.

Here you go.

Here's one part of it.

These kinds of lootboxes and microtransactions are explicitly designed to prey upon and exploit human psychology in the same way casino games are so designed. This is especially true for young adults who child psychologists and other experts explain are particularly vulnerable. These exploitive mechanisms and the deceptive marketing promoting them have no place in games being marketed to minors, and perhaps no place in games at all.

You can see clearly in the sentence it says.

These kinds of lootboxes and microtransactions.

When I heard a few days ago a French senator wanted to make laws to make microtransactions illegal. I called my state senator, my American state senator since I live in the United States of America to draft legislation to just make microtransactions illegal and she said the on-going controversy that is rising will be looked into.

One thing is CD Projekt RED has these loot boxes with the kegs for the GWENT: The Witcher card video game.

I will be very happy if CD Projekt RED just changes GWENT: The Witcher card video game from a Free to Play (F2P) video game to a paid video game with absolutely no microtransactions being sold.

Here's my gog.com do not ever allow video games with microtransactions wishlist, it's at 4,400+ votes.

To be honest, some politician has been getting their 10 minutes of fame on this topic for well over a decade. Cryptic ran into this issue with Star Trek years ago.

Good luck with that. :)

There's always hope. But when you have companies like EA pulling support from the Nintendo Switch because they can't market a ton of this stuff, it shows how much they rely on it for "extra income".

Note that many, many, many other publishers and developers are making bank on the Switch, and in many cases it has been reported as the version to sell the most copies out of console games.

And before you ask why I'm talking about console games, this problem with lootboxes has infected the console scene too. Nintendo is really the only console maker that doesn't assume you're online 24/7 these days, which is why I switched.

I'd rather game developers and publishers take Nintendo's approach, deliver a higher quality product and lower the price more slowly to earn more on it, than to count on day 1 sales of a shoddy game that relies on gimmicks and gambling, and rely on microtransactions after the initial sale.

Furthermore, I think EA needs to get shaken the f*ck up. Activision is nowhere near as bad as EA, other than recycling the same game ad infinitum, but Ubisoft does the same.
GOOD. It is about fucking time, governments stepped in and put an end to EA's Scooby Doo villain like antics. Enough is enough. The line has to be drawn, somewhere.

These would be the same governments who consistently are unable to do anything about anything? Nothing will change, don't even bother thinking it will.

I hope they will continue doing staff like this because it is very bad for kids and for everyone who is willing just to play game and not to gamble

This topic being a whopping 8 years old and microtransactions still not being declared illegal, these words where prophetic.

Was this comment relevant enough to dig up an 8 years old topic from the grave?
