Perhaps GOG has good reason to reject certain games. Do they publicly state the reasons for rejecting games?

Well, i found this on steam. I like to have games on my GOG account so i went over here to see if i could find it. Did not find it so i got it on steam. Then i read the forums on steam and found the post about this not being accepted on GOG. Well, they lost my money since they were being stupid about this issue. GOG, stop acting like fools! This game is great and you would have had some of my money if you would have accepted it on your service.

For a second there I thought my grandmother was on line, but she loves GOG so it must be another 'cockface'.

GOG made itself by offering classic games tweaked to run on modern machines, and newer (mostly indie) games with an 'old school' feel to them. To hear them classify a game like this as too 'niche' is practically heartbreaking. I don't know what the hell is going on with GOG and their sister company CDProjekt, but they've really taken a nosedive in terms of business practices and product quality. I used to prefer to shop here as opposed to Steam, but lately I've found myself gravitating back toward Steam for most purchases.
This will be one more game I will buy from Steam, even if it's released here eventually. Get it together please, and start caring about your customers and potential customers again. And please don't make Cyberpunk 2077 a crappy console port like Witcher 3. Thanks.

I'm pretty sure I know the answer though: GOG wants to remain a curated store which offers some amount of exposition to games that enter it. If you noticed, every new release is featured in a newspost which seems to be written by GOG people, and they seem to all be featured on the front page for some time. GOG is also commited to having a lot of goodies that come with each game, and to make them run as much as possible on future OS's. This is of course, only feasible with a trickle of games entering the store.
Steam used to be more like that (which is why making it on Steam was huge for indie games, the advertising they got almost automatically meant success). But now that Valve have opened the floodgate, tons of games go straight to the catalog without ever getting a frontpage spot.
This does pose the problem that if you want to have all your games at the same place, the Steam client will win everytime. I wanted to transition to GOG Galaxy, until I realized that (besides the bugs) I could only have a fraction of the games that I buy on Steam on there. Also, very few bundles offer GOG keys so my main method of trying out indie games doesn't work with them.
Maybe GOG should consider having two very separate release channels and a distinct split in their catalog. Premium, manually curated games would be handled as usual, and games that didn't make it through the selection process for some reason would be let in through the backdoor without publicity, quality control, emphasis on goodies or commitment to make them run on future OS's. The only policy would be that they must be DRM-free. To prevent drowning the featured games in niche/crap games, the secondary catalog could even be featured on a separate website/store, which I suggest naming BOG.com :P . Seriously, though, the key is that the Galaxy client would handle both, allowing you the best of both worlds: a nice curated store on the one hand, and a sea of games to explore on the other, and the ability to have all your games at the same place including very niche ones. All that DRM-free.

WereSquirrel, that's my theory too.
To continue beating the dead horse, I don't agree with the way they're handling things, their "curating" being one of them - solid idea, poor realisation (because front page featuring aside, Undertale and Mad Max certainly didn't have Steam do massive promotions for them). Likewise I'm not seeing GOG's "carefully curated" release schedule doing any favours for games like Shovel Knight either, but that's partially because of the ridiculous fact that people can rate (and even review) a game without buying it.
GOG is still my store of choice if games that I want make it here, but I'm not going to let their business practices dictate my tastes or purchases. Only GOG will know whether their "lol careful curation" is best for them in the long run.

I voted for this game, and, after reading about it as well as checking out videos and forums, have made the decision to purchase it, but not just yet. I am going to wait a while to see if it manifests on GOG, and if it does not, I'll have to buy it somewhere else.
As far as it being to 'niche' for GOG, well, I hope the word 'niche' is an euphemism for something more relevant behind the scenes because, if that is a serious evaluation and reason by this service for not putting it here, I am worried about the direction GOG might be taking, since I seem to like 'niche' games; my GOG library has plenty of them.

Starward Rogue got rejected by GOG, as user Matruchus stated here, this was reply from dev:
"GOG isn't going to be carrying this on launch, because they don't feel like it's a fit for their audience and I guess they are trying to really be very picky these days on what games they choose so each on gets extra promotion. That said, never fear: there are some MAJOR promotional things we have going on with another huge partner. I love GOG, but this one has been very frustrating to say the least. There is absolutely no barrier to this going through from our side; my hope is that after they see what a huge success this hopefully is on Steam and Humble (and others) that they'll jump on board as well. I'm sure there's more to this story, but if there is your guess is as good as mine."
Yep, running very picky policy which have both good and bad sides to it.

And bloody hell, it's 2016 and we still don't have the two Valley Without Wind episodes on GOG (I already bought elsewhere of course)

Hmm, I watched the gameplay video and I would say that it is a border case. I doesn't look too bad, it doesn't look too good either. Not sure how much it would sell. It's not my favorite genre anyway.
I can only reiterate what I said before here. I wish GOG would use statistical methods to verify that what they are doing is good and I wish they would give some more games a chance while at the same time not bothering their customers with advertisment and announcement of games they are not interested in anyway.
In this case: release it here GOG but do not tell me about it.

So I'm going to wait for the vote rate to slow down, or at least for the total to pass 300, before to contact them again...

@Everybody,
I contacted GOG again 12 days ago and didn't get any answer so far so I guess it's dead for a GOG release.
For the ones who want a DRM free version of the game (it's License Key based, like in the 80's ;-) ), you can order it with Fastspring from here with 25% discount till 7th February :

And you'll also get a Steam Key in bonus.
