A quote from the Fall of the Dungeon Guardians blog:

"Except that, I got the answer from GOG : they said it looked like a good & interesting game, but were afraid it was too much of a niche game for their store (translation : it didn’t sell enough on Steam)."

http://www.managames.com/DungeonGuardians/

A grid-based first person dungeon crawler is too niche for GOG. I'm sorry, what?! I can't think of a better match for GOG than an old-school niche RPG. If this is too niche for GOG, why are they selling Legend of Grimrock, which is almost exactly the same genre as this one?

This is not the first time I've rolled my eyes at GOG's decisions on which games to include in their lineup. I'm perfectly fine with having some standards, and not include every crummy RPGMaker game out there like Desura, but turning down good games for arbitary reasons seems counterproductive to me. It's twice as frustrating when GOG is the premiere DRM-free store online, and if they don't take on a game, Steam might become the only option.
It really looks like a great game and I would buy it without any doubt.

Unfortunately there are only 13 votes on the wishlist. People should vote to tell GOG that we want this game.

Uh that's a shame, looks really good too.
Voted.
Looks good. I added it to my steam wish list :)

edit: and voted.

I just sent the developers a message about releasing it DRM-free on the Humble Store. If GOG doesn't want our money, then I'm sure Humble would be happy to get it instead.

I'd also encourage people to directly contact GOG, if not via Support than social media.

And really, I don't think you should be against getting the game on Steam in instances like these - it's GOG's own fault. You could perhaps let GOG know that if they continue to reject the game, if the game is not here by [date], you'll be getting it on Steam (or it looks like you can buy direct from the dev?).

Very good idea too.

That game looks interesting enough that I wouldn't mind having it sit on my self along with 500 other games. Maybe I'd try play it too.
This looks like Legend of Grimrock. Too much. Maybe this was the reason it hasn't sold well? Or maybe it's price since LoG are priced similarly (outside of sales of course). Anyway, voted! You can't have enough dungeon crawlers, can you? :)
On first look it does indeed look like Grimrock, but hell there's so many clones of this and that these days, why not one more? I have no idea why GOG keeps refusing such games, I would certainly buy this if it came here.

In the meantime, for those that want to jump straight into the action, I caught this line in their 'Buy the game' section under Notes: The ManaGames.com version doesn’t require Steam to run.

For now I'll hold it off but if GOG doesn't bring it here then I'll look for it DRM-Free elsewhere.
According to the dev. blog post the game is selling okay: "Actually, sales on Steam are not too bad and I’m relatively confident we’ll get to the point where the game will be worth the money and time invested in it."

Another one of the same genre came out today: http://store.steampowered.com/app/366510/?snr=1_5_1100__1100

Anyway, both games have reviewed well. They look professional enough. Similar games are already in GOG. So what's the problem?

I don't think it should matter how much the game sells on Steam. Also I have no idea how GOG evaluates their games, but sometimes it seems they don't know their customer's expectations at all.

In my book, If a game is well made and it's something that I know the customers are interested in, then it's a deal and these 2 games you linked are none too short of that.

I couldn't agree more.
Hmm, looks interesting without any question. But... I couldn`t find any system requirements.
But I voted for it, when it comes here, I`ll find out about the sys reqs. :-)
