Hi all,

Does anyone knows why in my library I see the version number of the game installers in 3 digits like S.P.A.Z. for example is 2.0.0 but when I download the installer I see it named xxxx_2.0.0.3 ? What is this 3 at the end of the version number does it mean actual new content from the creator of the game, a patch that fixes some problems in-game again made from the original author or this last digit, invisible in the library view is the incremental version of the GOG installer/wrapper made by GOG staff?
Also when the '3' becomes '4' are we going to see the product in the library view as 'updated' or not - in the case of just an installer change, and no new content or in-game bug fix I would rather not see it and reinstall the game again.

For whatever reason, the library only shows the first 3 digits from an installer. The installer version is just that; an installer version. A new one could come and contain absolutely no fix from the creator. It's also very possible that instead of an installer becoming 2.0.0.4, it could become 2.1.0.7. Why? GOG's developers only know.

Sometimes there are notifications (usually when there are fixes added), other times no (such as when the V 1 installers became V 2).

Installer version is installer version and says nothing about the game version. Most old games don't get any new patches from the developers anymore, so the game version won't change. But GOG's installers may have GOG-made fixes. To know if you have the newest version, GOG shows you their installer version.

You can see the installer version when you turn off the "GOG.com Downloader mode" and "right click -> save" the download link. It's not perfect, but... at least you can check the version before starting the download.

Sometimes you get notifications, sometimes not. Depends on how broken the notification system is on the day of the update -.- What you won't get: patch notes. It'll just tell you that omething got updated. This thread could help to find out what happened.
I wonder if it's based on perhaps the date it was released more so than a sub-patch....
The way GOG handles this is quite awkward, IMO. For a site like GOG displaying the official game or patch version in a prominent place somewhere should be a given, and there should be less confusion about the installers' version numbers, they should be fully displayed without leaving out any digits and it should be more obvious what got updated and why. I really hope some of this gets fixed by the introduction of the Galaxy client.
