Tried to buy Absolver as a gift for my friend so I 'd have somebody to play with, and have him download Gog as well. But then Gog tells me i can't buy gifts unless I wait 3 months after my last purchase. So I purchase some wallet credits thinking I could use those. Afterwards, it gives me the same error, have to wait three months, now I don't want that wallet money anymore. I try to contact support, and every time the page loads in Chrome it won't go to the page saying it's not safe and people could be trying to hack my account or whatever, so I can't even contact support, so I'm stuck here in the forum. Well guess what, I was trying to give Gog a chance but now I don't see the point beyond playing Gwent. I still bought the game, but guess what, I did it on Steam without a single hitch. Congrats Gog, not only did you lose out on the money, but also on having an extra customer download your program, and you managed to disenfranchise an existing user you are likely now going to lose. As for me, I want my Gog wallet money back, and if that doesn't happen, it will certainly be the last $30 I ever spend on Gog.

The waiting period was put into place because of scammers and thieves creating throwaway accounts, buying a bunch of keys with stolen credit card information, and then selling those keys on sites like G2A. It's annoying, yes, but it's not without reason.

I'm sorry, but it did tell you quite plainly that you couldn't buy gift keys until 3 months after your last purchase. It did not tell you "except if you use wallet funds". Why would you think that made a difference?

There is a known technical issue with the support page right now. There is a mismatch between the domain it is on and the domain of the certificate it uses. Hopefully it will be fixed soon.

I am sorry you had such an awful experience. You were simply unlucky, and hit a number of snags simultaneously. I can guarantee you that your situation is not typical, or GOG would not have any customers at all. That said, there is certainly room for improvement on their side, but generally things do flow a lot more smoothly than what you've experienced.

I am certain that there will be no problem getting your refund once the support page is functional again. It's the weekend now of course, so I don't know exactly when that will be, but I would expect the technical issue to be resolved sometime on Monday at the latest.

Most of what you say seems pretty fair, and I was blowing off some steam (pardon the pun). However, i would take issue with the wallet, when I clicked it before the purchase, it didn't say it could not be used for a gift like it did in the credit card section. That section also did say I could use other forms of payment to get the gift without specifics, and the wallet may have been in the original message I don't recall to be fair, I remember it saying credit card and paypall but to be fair I'm not sure if it included wallet, but it certainly said nothing when I clicked the wallet until after i made the purchase (also kinda funny that I can't purchase a gift till after 3 months but I can purchase wallet credits?) If they return my wallet credits i'll be cool with Gog, but they already lost out on a potential customer because of their rules, and while I understand the need for it, there's gotta be better ways to deal with that issue. Anyway, thanks for the input, hope Absolver doesn't have issue connection me with Steam friends!

Understandable, given your situation. When something like this happens, one gets frustrated, and frustration tends to make one express oneself in a somewhat more forceful manner than usual ;-)

Again, it's because of the whole money laundering thing. There is no reason to prevent you from buying wallet funds, as you can use those to buy games for yourself. If you do that with stolen credit card information, the games will be revoked from your account when discovered (and in all likelihood, your account will be banned, since you were directly involved). Given that the games are DRM free, you could of course have downloaded the installers already, so you'd still have the games themselves, but if that is all you were after, simply pirating them would be both easier, safer and less illegal (please note that I am not advocating any of these actions I'm describing, I am merely trying to explain the reasoning behind the gifting waiting period). As such, the wallet funds are irrelevant to the scenario.

The gifting waiting period is of course not a perfect solution, but it does make it a lot more difficult to use GOG for money laundering. A potential thief would have to create an account, buy a cheap game on it, and then wait three months before he could use it for nefarious purposes. Maybe some actually do that, but not nearly as many as would otherwise be the case.

It's a sad fact of the world we live in that assholes exist everywhere. There are plenty of people who think nothing of stealing from others, especially from a company, if they think they can get away with it. For a local brick-and-mortar store, the actual number of assholes within reach who are willing to take advantage of them is quite small. But for a global online store like GOG, well... The total number of assholes on the planet is quite large. GOG needs to have some sort of deterrent in place to prevent them from stealing.
Just to provide a link, we're discussing the ssl issue here:

I gave a link to a possible workaround but no one has gotten back to me on it yet.
Thanks everyone!
