It seems that you're using an outdated browser. Some things may not work as they should (or don't work at all).
We suggest you upgrade newer and better browser like: Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer or Opera

Fesin: Even if it became mandatory (which I don't believe it ever will), how is "downloading standalone installers through Galaxy" DRM, but "downloading standalone installers through the browser" isn't?
If Galaxy is mandatory, I assume it means just like Steam where you must run Galaxy to run your games. If it simply means Galaxy is the only method to grab your standalone DRM-free, able-to-be-archived, and non-Galaxy dependent (to install or run your games) installer, then I'd have to consider it.

How is it different than "downloading standalone installers through the browser"? You already have the browser installed and can use it to access whatever sites you want. Galaxy would be yet another program to install with the single purpose of accessing games from one single site. This would be something that is totally unnecessary from an end user point of view. Why be forced to install yet another program to DL games when you can easily enough do so with the browser you already have installed and are utilizing to access the site in the first place? I thought that would be obvious.

Alright. I thought most people meant "only way to download games" when they talk about how Galaxy is becoming mandatory.

Annoying and stupid? Totally agree.
DRM? No. Not everything that sucks is DRM.
If we can have the option of keeping the installers intact when downloading from the client then I wouldn't mind at all. However, I'm pretty sure it deletes the files right after installation. Please correct me if it's not the case, because I haven't been using Galaxy for this reason.

The Galaxy client gives two options;
1) Direct install through the "Install" function.
2) Standalone installer download through the "Backup and Extras" button.

Im supporting GOG because its an alternative to Steam, because its DRM-free and above all because it doesnt force updates on me while im playing, like Steam does,
If the Galaxy software becomes mandatory and that will force me to update the games to play them the same way steam does, im out of here.

I wont support a GOG that turns into a Steam mini-me wannabe.

Ah, thanks! Well, then I'm not bothered at all.

Direct install through the install function will eventually also offer a install script according to devs for games that need it, so you can take your installed games, archive them, put them on a new PC, and all it would take is running the script for them to work. At that point trying to claim Galaxy DRM would be total nonsense, mandatory or not.

Umm..you do know Galaxy will have a option to disable auto updates globally/for all installed games right? you can already see it and the other disable/enable options(disable friends and chat, disable notifications, disable achivements, disable game time tracking) by clicking the gear icon in the client, you just can't use it yet. In the mean time you can just turn off auto updating on a game by game basis.

No, not everything that sucks is DRM. I didn't say it was. I believe you're completely misunderstanding me. If, eventually, Galaxy is required to not only DL the games but also to install and play them, then it's nothing more than DRM and that's where I'll walk away. If it's the only way GOG will allow you to DL your games, but you can still back up and keep the installers DRM-free and you don't need Galaxy to install and play, then I won't be happy about it and will consider my course of action.

*edit* And again, I see no reason to fear the worst here. GOG has said Galaxy will be optional and I believe them. To this point, I have no reason to doubt it. I don't feel there's any reason to panic yet.

Yeah, I definitely agree with that. Sorry for misinterpreting you.

Thanks... Grargar told me what I wanted. The rest of your statement should be directed to the people who are talking about DRM. I wasn't.

I was pointing out you will have more backup options than just using the standalone installer eventually and was mainly just adding more info to what Grargar stated because that is what you seemed worried about ... the DRM part was more for other people that may have been reading, not you. Sorry, should have been more clear. xD
