Pond86: Another reason why Eurogamer is bad. Why drag this up again? Just as its calmed down, as they are going to know its just going to result in arguing, swearing and threats once again.
Eurogamer has basically turned into the european version of Polygon. SJW-ish holier than thou-blowhards that produce sensationalist articles about some 18 y/o person that called someone else a f*g while streaming.

So basically it was just that strict, eh, personal policy of his to stay away from politics that bit him. What many who claim to be apolitical keep failing to see is that just about everything you do, and say in a public setting, has political implications. Some very minor, others far less so, but they're there and the more public the setting and more notable the channel used, the greater the, real or perceived, implications, so you should be aware of them and when you do make a statement, make it with intent.

Was far more willing to give the guy the benefit of the doubt before, but when I see stuff like that, wanting to just stay away from politics, and even specifically saying he left England just so he won't keep hearing of Brexit, when that's one of the biggest and worst things happening in Europe in decades, and it would even affect him and those he cared for directly... Yeah, definitely can't be bothered to care about such a person either.
(That said, the doxxing and calling his parents as home is damn low and in no way justified.)

It's actually good to point out 18 year old people doing wrong things. Lots of people have had this preconceived notion that racism and sexism and homophobia would die off with the older generations, what that assumption fails to account for is that being an asshole isn't age specific.

Pointing out 18 year old people is an important service to remind people of that fact.

Sounds like Gog is an employer from hell.

lol at that sentence ""Your main goal and purpose," he had been told, "is to moderate the GOG forums because they're so toxic.""

The first of a 3 part German-language video documentary about GOG is up here:
https://www.gamestar.de/videos/fuer-kurze-zeit-kostenlos-exklusive-gogcom-doku-teil-1-die-drm-rebellen-von-cd-projekt,98083.html
A new interview with PC Gamer:
https://www.pcgamer.com/gogs-10-year-journey-to-bring-old-games-back-to-life/
Ah.
Then there were the Dune games. We’d all love to see Dune II come back, right?

Marta Adamska: Oh my god, we’ve spoken to so many people who were even remotely engaged in the process of creating Dune II. Westwood was involved and as it turned out, not all the rights went to EA when they bought them. Some code rights went to some of the actual programmers, but they were residual so we’d need to sign with both them and EA. Talking to EA is always a huge process because they’re such a huge company. Asking for the documents, which are in paper form, that’s a level of time and engagement that might not be worth it in terms of business. But there was this one guy who knew about the case because he was personally interested and he said that all the rights had reverted to Frank Herbert’s family.

Somehow, I don’t want to know how, one colleague got a contact for them, and they unfortunately said they didn't want to revive anything. It wasn’t a case of not understanding games, just a straight-up, ‘If it’s old it should stay old’. It was so unbelievably frustrating. But of course, they have a right to that decision. It’s theirs. If they feel so strongly, who are we to judge them for it?
The Dune novels are old, they should stay old. :-/
Good read!

It's a bit sad when they say that the most likely fate for a company that used to publish a good old game is to have gone bankrupt at some point.

That's the fate of most companies, so laws of probability. But yeah, those that just throw up the same old crap aimed at mindless masses and wrapped in piles of marketing have the much better chances to stick around, while those striving for quality and looking for a discerning audience tend to run into the very obvious problem of the small percentage of people who are in said audience and also care for quality.
Part 2 of GameStar's German-language video interview with GOG is now up:
https://www.gamestar.de/videos/fuer-kurze-zeit-kostenlos-hinter-den-kulissen-von-gogcom-teil-2-die-suche-nach-rechte-inhabern-ist-wie-stalking,98371.html

https://www.gameinformer.com/2019/03/07/the-digital-archaeologists-how-gogcom-rescues-games-from-the-dustbin-of-history
Kohan specifically mentioned there, would it mean it's going to be released too or an example of failure to get the rights from an uninterested holder?
Otherwise, says the article is from Dec 2018? But mentions releasing Diablo? That was just added now for the online piece and the rest's still the original then or what?
Either way, seems to refer largely to what GOG used to be. Now while there is still some of this going on, there's less of it than before and definitely just a tiny part of what GOG does, in no way a priority.
Kohan Warchest is on Steam for $19.99. Which is odd that its there and not here on GOG.
