fronzelneekburm: Fun fact: You can no longer set your location to China in your account settings. You can only set it to "Republic Of China" , which is just a fancy name for Taiwan. So basically, you have the choice of two different names for Taiwan, but none for the "People's Republic Of China".
Hey if Taiwan has two options then I want them too.

As of now I set mine to "Uruguay", I want the option to set it to "Republica Oriental del Uruguay".

kt_zero: I am aware that the Wall exists. I'm just wondering if we can be sure that this is the issue here or is it really some other problem that I can totally reslove without enduring the painful speed of using a VPN on a 12M Chinese "Broadband".

Has anyone else encountered this problem before?

Well Gog set this thread to "Solved" without doing anything, I wanna work for gog support team too, yeah!!! Even with a VPN the bandwidth is way to slow to download anything (also mentioned eslewhere on this forum). Gog could just setup another server with a different IP. Guess they don't care.
I just bought a game I wont be able to play (my Chinese Ip address didn't pose Gog any problem to accept my money)

Lol, it wasn't gog that set this thread to "solved", it was the person that made the thread that select what he/she considers to be the best solution for what was asked.

Thank you all for your quick answers. Well first I should appologize to Gog support team ;-P
Well changing DNS servers doesn't work for me (or either of my friends in China). I guess you need a permissive enough internet provider to make it works or maybe better skills than mine...

I guess I'll have to wait for my next vacation in Europe to download it, lol.

Well I have the 60% of my library downloaded. I stop buying until this will be solved, if it is ever solved... is a good excuse to stop my compulsive buying behavior LOL

For me the downloads work with VPN, but the problem is that nowadays they are becoming more aggressive with VPNs so we do not know if they will work tomorrow.

This is not a GOG problem, is very difficult to deal with this from outside.

UPDATE

The user BRANDEX fix this issue, I copy paste his post

I have 0 problems with GOG in China. Why? It's actually only a DNS issue. Change your DNS server to something else than the default one from your Chinese ISP.

Protip:
Use this handy automatic hosts file editor - https://github.com/huhamhire/huhamhire-hosts/releases

and most of the internet will work normally again inside China without the need for VPN/Proxy.

Hey, which DNS servers do you use? I tried a few off the list (changing them directly on my router) and no luck. Still can't connect to the Galaxy client. =(

In addition, there's 4 settings on the host file editor, which one do you use for that as well?

I haven't noticed any change so far.

Welp, gog found a new way to troll Chinese customers: When you try to redeem a game, you need to enter a captcha. Thing is, reCaptcha doesn't work in China.

Anyone got any ideas for a workaround (y'know, preferably one that doesn't involve a VPN that gets blocked as well)?
