As titled. I am now in China and will be staying here for quite some time. Unfortunately, I have discoverd that all the download links on GOG are disabled. Galaxy doesn't work either. I can still view my library and even buy games, just that I can't download any of them.

As you can tell, this is a problem. Is there a way to reslove this or am I doomed for the next year or so?

Sounds like the "Great Firewall" might be getting in your way. You might try some kind of VPN service to get around it.
The only way to get around the Great Firewall of China is by using a VPN.
I am aware that the Wall exists. I'm just wondering if we can be sure that this is the issue here or is it really some other problem that I can totally reslove without enduring the painful speed of using a VPN on a 12M Chinese "Broadband".

Has anyone else encountered this problem before?
No problem!

You're not alone with this problem.
Website and Galaxy are completely broken in China
I seem to remember someone else had exactly the same problem a while ago. Shame the forum search is so poor. I think it was at least a year ago and to my recollection, there was no solution, only confirmation (i think from a blue) that it was being blocked by the country
When I was in China just about a month ago, stuff didn't work for me either: Not the GOG Downloader, not Galaxy.

However, downloading stuff manually via the library DID work... sometimes. I remember it took me over a week until I was able to grab all the files needed for FEAR 2, without the files winding up corrupted in the end. It's a complete pain in the ass, but that was the only way to access my stuff, as nothing else worked. Who knows, maybe since they did some "tweaks" to the library, downloading manually doesn't work anymore either...

Here's my speculation: GOG isn't exactly smart as to where it stores its files. Take the trailer videos from the game pages for instance: Those are embedded youtube videos and since youtube is blocked in China, no videos for GOG customers. Steam's videos work perfectly fine, as they host the videos on their own website. I'd be curious to know whether Steam customers can't access their games in China as well.

edit: Never mind, according to the thread MiKiL posted, Steam works fine in China. Maybe GOG should ask Valve for help :P

Yes, we know that's the problem since many users from China have reported the same thing and they all solved the problem using a VPN.

Maybe GOG ought to solve the problem themselves instead by changing to another CDN for China?
Fun fact: You can no longer set your location to China in your account settings. You can only set it to "Republic Of China" , which is just a fancy name for Taiwan. So basically, you have the choice of two different names for Taiwan, but none for the "People's Republic Of China".

That's just a mistake in translation. The Chinese text translates into People's Republic Of China. There is a separate one for Taiwan.

It'd be rather interesting to me to see how GOG would go about overthrowing the Chinese government and getting rid of their great firewall. Maybe Sony could make a movie about it! "The Interview 2"!!!
I'm a little curious how it breaks. For example, if you try to point 'wget' at one of the download links, what is the output?

This might not work - The Great Firewall was upgraded to block VPNs.
