== BUG REPORTING ==

Please use: http://mantis.gog.com and include
1. steps to reproduce the bug (if possible)
2. screenshot or movie showing the bug (if possible)
3. Galaxy Client logs (see below)

Where can I find Galaxy logs on my computer?
On Windows 7 or later: C:\ProgramData\GOG.com\Galaxy\Logs
On Mac OS X: /Users/Shared/GOG.com/Galaxy/Logs

== FEATURE SUGGESTIONS ==

Please use: http://www.gog.com/wishlist/galaxy. For feature suggestions and votes on them please try do explain how Galaxy and its users will really benefit from it.

== IMPORT ALREADY INSTALLED GAMES TO GALAXY ==

1. For GOG games installed using installers from the last few months (so called Galaxy-compatible installers)
Click the Galaxy logo button on top of the sidebar and select "scan and import folders" - it will find all compatible games within that folder and add them to the Client.

2. For remaining GOG game INSTALLATIONS
Find the game in the Library (click on the image of the game), then click the More button and select "Manage Installation" -> "Import folder" and point the folder selector into the folder where that game is installed.

== KNOWN ISSUES ==
- throttling max download speed is not yet possible
- notifications related to incoming chat messages and friend requests does not always disappear instantly when consumed and may require reloading Store page
- games imported from existing installations will auto-update once, even if updating is disabled
- Moving Galaxy from /Applications on Mac OS X will stop the app from working
- Galaxy cannot be launched by other users on the same computer

For everyone who has a problem with missing api-ms-crt dlls in Client's versions post 1.1.5:
Please install one of those windows update: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2999226 https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3118401
You may need to update Windows to meet the requirements for these:
For Windows 8.1 and for Windows Server 2012: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2919355
For Windows 7 and for Windows Server 2008 R2: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/976932

You can also try reinstalling Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributables 2015 (x86) if you meet above requirements.
Available here: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=48145

If above instructions doesn't work for you, create a separate issue on mantis.gog.com and we'll try to help you individually.

Please note that this solution only helps with the missing api-ms-crt dlls.

Answering this question: Why 1.1 doesn't work after updating to 1.2?

This is happening probably due to incompatible database from version 1.2, please delete this folder:
%ALLUSERSPROFILE%\GOG.com\Galaxy\storage
usually
C:\ProgramData\GOG.com\storage\

Then you'll have to use scan&import (menu under the top Galaxy logo) function to see your games back in Galaxy Client.

davidakers71: Anyone else having issues with their games disappearing from the installed list in the client? Keeps happening to me, even after reinstalling the client and a few of the games. Reinstalled four games, restarted my computer, and two of the games were missing. Plus the client hangs so hard that I can't end its task and have to power down the computer the hard way.

skeletonbow: Have you modified the game installation folder in any way, or moved it from one location to another? There are certain files Galaxy looks for in each game installation and if they're not there and in tact, it will remove them from the list. In particular the goggame*.info file is a JSON configuration file which must be there and must not have any mistakes in it or it will be rejected due to the strict syntax of JSON and non-forgiving nature of parsers. Normally these files should not be edited, but if they need to be for some reason - always pass them through jsonlint.com or similar to ensure the syntax is valid once done editing. Other mistakes introduced into the files may cause them to be ignored also.
I changed the default install folder setting before I installed the games originally, but not since. And it's only happened within the past couple releases. Up to probably a week or so ago, all the games were still listed.

So I'm having major issues with GOG Galaxy. I am unable to install or update any game! I have GOG Galaxy v1.1.17.3, and Windows 8.1 Pro on a Lenovo G505S laptop. I am on an administrator account. I am connected by an 8 meg ethernet connection. i tried installing Master of Orion from within Galaxy, but it failed. I then downloaded it from the main site, and installed it, Galaxy now recognizes the it is installed, but it will not let me play. When I try to verify, I get "installation failed configuration error".

I manually added my copy of Warlords Battlecry 3 to Galaxy, and again cannot play it. I tried to verify it, and got the same error. I would post a bug report at mantis.gog.com, but was unable to find any logs at C:\ProgramData\GOG.com\Galaxy\Logs. I don't see a directory off my C drive in the name of "ProgramData" at all. Any ideas???

I've experienced a problem like you describe quite some time ago with a much older version of Galaxy, but not for quite some time now. In the end I had to uninstall Galaxy, blow away the data folder and Galaxy installation folder to remove remnants, then reinstall it, scan my games, manually import some of them, then everything worked.

C:\ProgramData is a hidden system directory on Windows which is not visible by default, you have to make hidden folders visible in Explorer to see it, but it is definitely there.

Vovchigus: Why some games have no support for Galaxy Client on OS X = Not yet available (on main Library screen) = Not compatible (on game page in Galaxy)?
Like Broken Sword 5, Colonization etc. :-( Is it temporary?
avatar
moonshineshadow: They just have not integrated them. And don't worry, it is not only OS X, there are also games that show as not compatible when you are using Win ;-)
Thank you for the info!
Do you know if it is temporary and we can hope that sometime GOG will integrate them into Galaxy Client? Or it is a permanent decision to abandon them due to some architecture incompatibilities or else?

I filed bug reports for two of them with complete detailed information and GOG fixed them. Not sure about any others remaining or what the problems are with them, but I got the impression that most of the issues are trivial things like game launching oddities such as launching out of focus or similar subpar experiences that they just flagged not compatible until they could fix them, but never bothered to ever put any priority on fixing them. That's personal speculation based on the few I reported which likely elevated the priority of them.

If anyone has games flagged as incompatible, file bug reports with full details, mention them here and encourage others who have the same games to add their details to the report, as well as filing support requests. It's the squeaky wheel that gets the oil. Issues nobody every reports or talks about will naturally be seen as not as important as other issues that do get reported, so the priority will go to new client/service feature development and fixing bugs that do actually get reported.

Tonnes of games have never had their installations updated with Galaxy support also. I'm not sure if they plan to work on that on their own over time, or if they're waiting for an influx of bug reports from people to raise the priority of it. I filed some bug reports about those and left them to see how they were handled before filing a bunch more. That was many months ago now, I haven't checked them for a while to see if they've been updated, but I know the game installers never got updated or I'd have found out via the update thread by now.

Perhaps they know there are several goggame*.info metadata updates needed in the future and don't want to have to update the entire catalogue multiple times and are holding off on the changes to try to do them all at once as there are 1700+ games in the catalogue now. Or perhaps they plan to develop software to automate as much of that process as possible instead of doing it manually over and over again which is probably endless tedious boring man hours of repetitious cut and paste, submit build job, rinse, repeat. Mere speculation based on some observation an educated whims.

I don't own Broken Sword 5 so I couldn't test that one, but I tested Colonization out. I'm running Windows here and Colonization installed and launched ok so the problem appears to be OS/X specific. I added a comment to your bug report to indicate that as a data point.

Are you able to download these games and install them manually from the standalone installers and run them? If so, do they automatically get registered with Galaxy, and if so are they able to be launched successfully with Galaxy?
Hey,

We have just released Galaxy version 1.1.18. It's a smaller release than we initially planned, but it will be forwarded with another one sometime during next two weeks :)

It contains mainly bugfixes and improvements for game time tracking.

Every time you guys put out a new release and say that it seems to get better, so keep up the good work. :) Been a while since I noticed any major issue with it, and it corrected itself after a delay the last few times so definitely noticeable improvements.

Any teasers for the bigger release? :oP 1.2 perhaps?

Personally I'm hoping for a 1.1.666 release and have it coincide with the release of DOOM 3 & DOOM 3 BFG Edition.

One can hope... :)
Hopefully, they will implement the achievement tracking of Legends of Eisenwald since it's been an issue for over a year and the game itself was recently discounted. Since new players (such as me) are playing it and "achievements" is listed as a feature, it would be prudent to do so. Otherwise, please just remove that part.

Achievements are not implemented in a specific game by GOG, but by the developers of that specific game. If a game's achievements are broken, you're best off contacting the developers of the game to report the problem. It is not something that GOG has any control over, including removing that part.

It's also worth noting that all Galaxy features are by definition in beta and may or may not work properly whether the problem lay in the given service itself, or in a given game that is using a particular service. Hopefully all such bugs/glitches get sorted out by the appropriate party over time however.

In the case of game time tracking, that's something that happens on the GOG side of things, whereas achievements are a combination of the game itself and the back end Galaxy service. One problem that can and has occurred however is that former bugs in achievement tracking which were on the Galaxy side of things may potentially have gotten fixed by GOG at a later date, but previously acquired achievements may or may not be granted depending on how the game is written. That occurred for example in The Witcher 3 previously, and to a much less degree is still an active problem where you met the conditions for an achievement, the achievement was not registered with Galaxy due to a bug, the back end bug was allegedly fixed by the achievement was never granted in the future either. Future updates to the game fixed some of these somehow by resubmitting the achievements presumably but there's at least one that never made it through for me still. I imagine it will be similar for other games as well.

Having said all of that, it seems like these features are much more stable and reliable than they were a year or so ago simply based on the number of people reporting issues in a publicly visible manner though so that's a good thing. Still, problems that are due to achievement related bugs in for a particular game itself can generally only be fixed by the developer of that specific game, and most likely not by GOG - even if the problem may have been caused due to bugs in the Galaxy beta code previously.

Thank you for the reply.

In the game's thread, one GOG team member mentioned one year ago that they would implement them in a future update (date uncertain), so I thought it could be fixed solely by them. If it's also dependent on the developer...who knows whether it will ever be fixed. Being new on digital distribution platforms (thanks to Sunless Sea - I heavily prefer physical media and ignore everything released "digital only"(up until now)), I read here on GOG that some developers treat this as 2nd tier and never bother to update their games properly. It would be disheartening if this was the case in this instance, especially since the game was updated yesterday, adding Chinese localization (it may have been a Kickstarter goal?) while acknowledging that the Japanese one crashes the game.

It's not possible for GOG to add achievements capabilities to video games that they do not own the copyrights to and source code of. Not in any technically sound business viable manner anyway. You will almost certainly never see GOG Galaxy achievements in any video game sold on GOG unless the developer of that game directly modifies the source code of their video game to use the Galaxy achievements API and provides an updated version of their game. It's not something added to a game externally via the Galaxy client, but rather something added internally to the game by the game developer themselves. The part of the puzzle that GOG provides is the library that implements the optional functionality the developer can choose to use, and the backend services that store the achievements one completes in their user account on GOG's servers.

If GOG ever mentioned some game would receive such a feature, they were referring to the developer of the game planning on providing that feature in the future, not GOG doing it themselves.

I can download the game installer from Galaxy (More->Backups & goodies) and run game.
But it doesn't automatically get registered with Galaxy and can't be imported manually with More->Manage installation->Import folder as all Manage installation menu is grayed out. Of course, there is no time tracking for this game and no automatic updates.
