== BUG REPORTING ==

Please use: http://mantis.gog.com and include
1. steps to reproduce the bug (if possible)
2. screenshot or movie showing the bug (if possible)
3. Galaxy Client logs (see below)

Where can I find Galaxy logs on my computer?
On Windows 7 or later: C:\ProgramData\GOG.com\Galaxy\Logs
On Mac OS X: /Users/Shared/GOG.com/Galaxy/Logs

== FEATURE SUGGESTIONS ==

Please use: http://www.gog.com/wishlist/galaxy. For feature suggestions and votes on them please try do explain how Galaxy and its users will really benefit from it.

== IMPORT ALREADY INSTALLED GAMES TO GALAXY ==

1. For GOG games installed using installers from the last few months (so called Galaxy-compatible installers)
Click the Galaxy logo button on top of the sidebar and select "scan and import folders" - it will find all compatible games within that folder and add them to the Client.

2. For remaining GOG game INSTALLATIONS
Find the game in the Library (click on the image of the game), then click the More button and select "Manage Installation" -> "Import folder" and point the folder selector into the folder where that game is installed.

== KNOWN ISSUES ==
- throttling max download speed is not yet possible
- notifications related to incoming chat messages and friend requests does not always disappear instantly when consumed and may require reloading Store page
- games imported from existing installations will auto-update once, even if updating is disabled
- Moving Galaxy from /Applications on Mac OS X will stop the app from working
- Galaxy cannot be launched by other users on the same computer

For everyone who has a problem with missing api-ms-crt dlls in Client's versions post 1.1.5:
Please install one of those windows update: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2999226 https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3118401
You may need to update Windows to meet the requirements for these:
For Windows 8.1 and for Windows Server 2012: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2919355
For Windows 7 and for Windows Server 2008 R2: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/976932

You can also try reinstalling Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributables 2015 (x86) if you meet above requirements.
Available here: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=48145

If above instructions doesn't work for you, create a separate issue on mantis.gog.com and we'll try to help you individually.

Please note that this solution only helps with the missing api-ms-crt dlls.

========================================================================================

Answering this question: Why 1.1 doesn't work after updating to 1.2?

This is happening probably due to incompatible database from version 1.2, please delete this folder:
%ALLUSERSPROFILE%\GOG.com\Galaxy\storage
usually
C:\ProgramData\GOG.com\storage\

Then you'll have to use scan&import (menu under the top Galaxy logo) function to see your games back in Galaxy Client.

Destro: Quick update about what we’re working on now. Currently we’re polishing version 1.1.13. which should bring some noticeable additions and improvements rather than just bug fixes, including
- [. . .]
- option to see your friends game time for games
avatar
Tyrrhia: Is it really an option to see your friends' playtime, or an option for your friends to see your playtime? Small wording difference, but huge privacy difference.
Yep, I'd be interested in an answer to that as well. Bad enough that galaxy is always showing what you are playing at the moment to everyone who has you in the chat contact list...

Ignoring that privacy online is an illusion (there is no such thing). What exactly is the privacy concern of how much someone has played a game? I really don't understand how anyone can worry about such things unless they bought something they are ashamed of and don't want people to know they play it.

Having said that I would imagine GOG will eventually allow one to opt out of such things (GOG being GOG) but that doesn't seem to be a priority while in beta, as for instance you can see what games people are playing in chat, etc, with no way to opt out right now as for as I know. Not to mention many features are enabled with no way to disable right now. The point of a beta is to have people testing these, not disabling them.

Thing is, it is no one else business what I'm playing, when I'm playing and how much.

And well, how about testing the options to opt out of this stuff. I'm sure that needs to be tested as well :P

Eh but one could argue you agree to this when you use a online focused client like Steam or Galaxy which has a strong social component. It's not like you have to use Galaxy in GOG's case nor can't wait for release were these features can be disabled. Just saying. :P

Well if we don't speak up for needing these features, I'm not sure they would ever be implemented. Since why do that if no one seems interested.
And yeah, I'm surely not using Galaxy if I want to play something for real.

To be honest in one of last few updates they ticked all the buttons in the settings for all the features, but you still can't disable them. So I would imagine they will at some point during beta want people to test disabling features, but as I said a beta is about testing features more than anything. You get less people testing if they disable them. :P

Yeah maybe. But honestly, it is bad enough that there is no privacy at all with galaxy and that their changes to the account system because of the galaxy introduction back then resulted in the online status here on the gog website in chat... Really not fun to receive messages the second you visit the website just because you want to see the new release or something. If things start to feel like you are being stalked it stops being fun.
So I certainly hope they introduce these features sooner than later.

Actually, I don't really care about my friends being able to see my playtime, but if there's an option to disable it, then I think I would disable it. Shame isn't even the reason, @moonshineshadow explained it well:
Thing is, it is no one else business what I'm playing, when I'm playing and how much.
I think it's a good idea to have such an option, but it should be disabled by default.

For my part, I'm only using Galaxy as an installer and launcher because I find it more convenient, and because I like having my playtime tracked. And there isn't a signed agreement when you first launch it asking you to only use Galaxy if you partake in social activites, so there. :P
avatar
Tyrrhia: but it should be disabled by default.
I strongly disagree with that, especially during a beta. They would defeat the purpose of what Galaxy in meant for, a social gaming platform. At-least GOG is planning to allow you to opt out, Steam doesn't even give you that... and most people (given Steam popularity) take no issue with it.

I would imagine GOG's terms of service/subscriber agreement covers this in some way or another.

For one thing, you can set yourself to offline in steam and also set your profile to private that people don't see what you are doing. And also, just because steam does a certain thing does not mean gog can't do better ;-)

Maybe someone logs 8 hours a day playing "Softporn Adventure" and doesn't want to advertise it to the world? Just one example. (that game is a bonus extra that comes along with one of the Leisuresuit Larry games). There are many other reasons why someone might not want to advertise what they're playing as well. Maybe someone enjoys playing certain other games or game genres in their own privacy that they feel embarrassed about advertising the the world. Or perhaps they simply don't want people knowing they've spent 16 hours a day for the last 7 days straight playing any video games. Perhaps they told their girlfriend/employer/parents they were working/doing something they said they'd do/whatever, but their GOG gaming habits suggest they've been playing video games. Privacy takes on various forms and what one person might not care about, others may very much care about.

GOG's DRM-free values are about treating the customer with respect, giving them choices and freedom. Forcing everyone to advertise their list of games and gameplay hours to the world with no way to opt out of it is straight up going to piss some people off. I personally don't have a problem sharing that information, but I can certainly recognize many reasons why other people may not and I respect people's ability to have a choice. I hope GOG makes it an optional feature that can be disabled if someone wants to do so. Even better if they can hide individual games from being seen if they wish to play those games without advertising it to the world while sharing data about other games they play. And bonus points if they let you decide who can see what you decide to share. Everyone/just friends/friends of friends/specific custom list of people, ability to have no-show filters etc. I suspect new features added to Galaxy wont initially have such flexible controls, but hopefully there is a way to disable a feature like this.

GOG has to realize that if someone does not want to share information such as this with the world, and their only options are "use Galaxy and share everything you're doing with the world" or "don't use Galaxy at all", many people will decide to just not use Galaxy. GOG obviously doesn't want that, so I have a feeling that with all of the "optional client optional optional optional" language they have consistently thrown out there in discussions, that all things like this will be optional. My biggest problem with it, is that even to this day the Galaxy page here on the site claims various features as optional which I'm sure they intend to make optional some day but which in fact are not optional since the client was released. I really hope the various greyed out checkboxes in settings either get implemented for real soon, or that they get removed from appearing to be options (because they aren't), and the Galaxy page advertising things as optional that aren't optional stops advertising them that way.

Yes, we want options - but not just the future promise of options that will come 5 years from now, but actual options that are optional now, and can be turned on and off right now, now. Including new features rolling out. Now. :)

At any rate it's not something that someone should have to prove to GOG to justify making the feature optional. It should just be optional to begin with and let the customer decide. Obviously GOG's customer base is built primarily of people who favour DRM-free games because it puts the power in the customer's hands and lets them decide how they want things. Why should GOG's services not do the same?

I would fully support those features (well Galaxy has an offline mode if no internet is hooked up), they just need to add an option to start in it. I also would support a private option for chat. I just don't want to see them disabled by default.

People are generally lazy by definition, if they were disabled by default a majority would not use them even if they wouldn't mind using them just because they would not want to take the time. This means Galaxy's online system would suck and make Galaxy irrelevant to what it is meant for.

It's bad enough finding older members on GOG now who aren't opposed to everything online focused. Let not make it worse when GOG is now slowly getting new people who don't share that view point.

avatar
skeletonbow: snip
And I'm not disagreeing with this at all, but I would think you would understand more than most just what the point of a beta is. It's not about giving people ways to disable features, it's about having people test those features and reporting valuable feedback either though manual bug reports or Galaxy sending automatic reports.

Having said that, I assume we will see more privacy related options soon enough during this beta.

what are you talking about man? the post says about sharing it with FRIENDS, not with the world.

why do you add people to your personal list of FRIENDS in the first place or accept their requests if you don't want to do anything with them or let them see anything more than general public does? keep them in the contact list and you have full privacy control.

Clearly they want test results and everything. But really what testing is there to be done or be reported about showing online status and what game you are playing in chat...

I didn't say it did. But have your tried playing a game online on Galaxy, it's rare finding someone and I would argue that is largely because GOG has a very large conservative fan base who oppose Galaxy and multiplayer in general. I'm just saying let's not find ways to make it worse when GOG is growing with new people who don't share that view.

Making sure it's functional for each game? Find weird glitches such as perhaps the text of the game name being messed up or the wrong game being shown when playing? Stuff like that easily slips through during development and fixing stuff like this in beta before a release candidate can be determined is key. I can't speak for GOG, but if I was them privacy options would come closer to release, and would be the last thing I test.
