Who here plays guitar to one degree or another? How proficient are you?

Is it a passion? A past-time? Something you wish you did more of? Something you used to do more of? Are you in a band? Do you play with friends? What kind of guitar(s) do you play? What kind(s) of music do you play?

General thread about guitar playing HERE - let it riff!

I play poorly, I can barely play anything, but I should really get back to doing it a bit every day. I've just got a cheap Silvertone guitar and I hook it up to my PS3 to play most of the time.
That's about the best I can do.
I've shared this before, but here you go: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D1XE_trQbU8

That's me. That's a song I wrote. That's my haircut.

Cheers.
I don't play guitar (and I actually *hate* the electric guitar), but I do play a couple other instruments.

Protip: The bagpipes are great for annoying your friends with.
I can play powerchords (poorly, ha!) but I'm honestly more interested in using guitars to make "noise" that sounds nothing like a guitar than I am for actually playing "normal" songs.

I'm working on getting my bass skills up to snuff though, Rachel Bolan (of Skid Row) and Kyle Kyle (of Bang Tango) are the two guys I really like and use as an influence. They're not "the best" or the most well known (especially Kyle Kyle) but they both played great and had fantastic tone.

Or the upper range of the clarinet.
I... can actually strum a few chords! I can even put them together once in a while into something that doesn't sound too bad.

I certainly fall into the category of "wish I did it more" - I was never quite "totally bitten by the bug" - I know that when people really love music and play guitar, it's something that they really can't put down for more than a day or so at a time.

Funny story - I started teaching myself to play and really enjoyed it. Was very happy with the slow progress I was making. Then I raised a puppy. Not my current guy, this was years ago. And she HATED when I played. Funniest thing ever - she's come running over and just feverishly bark at me whenever I'd start to play. I didn't think I was THAT bad.

It's something I still tell myself I'll pick back up from scratch one of these days, and really hope I mean it. There's no good reason for me not to do so tomorrow, or heck even years ago but I just haven't. So maybe this thread will be an excuse to do that.

I own a cheapy acoustic. I liked the sound of it and my only regret is that the action was a wanting, especially for a new player trying to learn chords.

I have a theme from a skeleton-run casino that says otherwise.
But then, I don't wanna mess up my blade.
I've been playing for about 7-ish years on a daily basis (missed about 3 days that I can remember :P ) Never really played in a band, but got together with a couple of groups at times. All electric, and I even have a bass, in fact that is what I'm holding in my avatar picture :P I play mostly blues, rock, and metal with AC/DC songs being some of my favorite to play, and my favorite band. I am trying to learn a few Primus songs on bass too.

Here is a picture of my brothers and my collection (since then he has gotten an Epiphone Les Paul Plus Top Pro in cherry red, that jerk) My guitars are the black SG, the Futura- explorer style one, and the EB Bass.

I play some. I've got an Fender Squire Strat, and a Mustang amp. The amp is nice since it's a modeler so you can a get a ton of sounds from it. Don't play enough though, just never seem to have the time. I'm decent at it, but I also got a big musical boost from 7 years of piano lessons.

One of my cats likes alternative rock, I think. He is often on my lap and when the music gets into more real rock he glares at me, but in general he seems pretty happy. He also will jump up on my lap while I'm playing the guitar. I think he's jealous of it :P
Is VLC an instrument?
