Bass player here, though I need to take my bass to a tech for repairs; Had it taken to the shop to get some electronics work before moving here, and the tech decided to lower the action, since I have it up reasonably high. Tried it 3 weeks after I arrived and there was a light buzzing on the 3rd fret, D string. Thought nothing of it, but 4 weeks later, all strings were unplayable. Will need to get it sorted soon, because I'm dying for a night of beers, music and bleeding fingers :D

Sometimes that can occur when a guitar has been moved from one environment to another with wildly varying humidity levels and/or seasonal changes. It can be quite noticeable and in extreme cases can cause the fretboard to dry out enough that it shrinks and the frets stick out and can cut your fingers with the sharp edges for example. In very dry environments it can be best to keep the guitar stored in a hard shell case with a guitar case humidifier, and ensure the humidifier is wet from time to time. Dunno if your problem is humidity related but it's worth consideration.

drealmer7: Who here plays guitar to one degree or another? How proficient are you?

Is it a passion? A past-time? Something you wish you did more of? Something you used to do more of? Are you in a band? Do you play with friends? What kind of guitar(s) do you play? What kind(s) of music do you play?

General thread about guitar playing <span class="bold"><span class="podkreslenie">HERE</span></span> - let it riff!
Ziggy does, and Weird and Gilly.

Thanks for the tip - figured as much :(. It was either humidity or the fact that I had to bring it with me on the plane.

In addition to the humidity, it probably needs a truss rod adjustment, however I recommend having this done at a shop. If it goes out often though it can be worth it to learn how to make the adjustment yourself too, there are lots of videos on youtube etc. that show how to do it, but you need to be very cautious as misadjustment can potentially cause permanent damage. Having said that, I don't know of anyone who has ever damaged one either. :)

I've been very hesitant to touch it as I don't have the equipment over here. My main worry atm is I'll need to get the entire neck and fretboard replaced, if it's warped in anyway :(. Having said that, it's only an LTD-50, so not the end of the world. Had it for 10 years though, so it's still mah bae ;)
