So that's what it was. Interesting.

I must admit, I often take advantage of sales to buy close friends and family gifts (that's when you can get the most bang out of 20$-25$).

I've seen my credit card blocked before (for gifts) and assumed it was my credit card company needing time to analyse payments to ensure it wasn't fraud.

So instead, they are rate limiting discount buy to prevent mass reselling? I suppose that makes sense in a way (though their rate limits seem pretty draconian if it is what it is).

Anyways, it usually clears 12-24 hours later, so if you don''t wait until the closing moments of the sale, you should be fine.

vordrax: I have no idea when they decided that it is a good business decision to make their website difficult to purchase from, but I doubt I will continue to support this platform with these anti-consumer measures. I came here to AVOID nonsense like this.

Ixamyakxim: It's most likely 100% what adalia said - this wasn't so much a "good business decision" for GoG as it was an economic necessity - those chargebacks when scumbags push off some stolen digital goods hurt a company - they lose money and they probably lose money again because you KNOW big credit card companies aren't going to do a lick for free.

What REALLY bothers me, to turn this into a rant during a rant, is that these assholes end up hurting a good, honest company like GoG, which is trying to do the right thing.

While the back alley, cesspool, dingy flea market key reseller sites, that are actively enabling fradulent / stolen credit card purchased goods to be sold (at best - at worst they're simply fronts for money laundering) continue to go along, happy as pigs in shit because they don't care about doing what's right.

Incidently, I don't suppose a key for the first Neverwinter Nights will make you feel any better, will it? I know it doesn't help with being able to set up your 3 person persisent world.
Thank you all for the solidarity. And thank you for the offer - we just finished our coop playthrough of Neverwinter Nights (Shadows of Undrentide and the weirdly-buggy Hordes of the Underdark), but I really appreciate the thought.

I was able to finally purchase another copy for my other friend. I don't know if he has accepted it yet (we weren't able to play last night because of this ridiculous limit, so we're now busy doing family things.) I'll have to wait until after the holiday break to get my refund I think (for the Wallet purchases that I couldn't spend), but the situation is more or less resolved beyond needing a refund for my other account's wallet.

I probably won't be buying from GOG in the future now that I've had to deal with this nonsense, unless there is just no other option. I like the DRM free nature of the site and my support has often been to buy from GOG instead of another platform to support the cause (181 games in my GOG library.) But after seeing how new customers and gifts are treated in such draconian, "guilty until proven innocent" fashion, I've lost a lot of respect for them. I understand that it might be to protect themselves from fraud - I know that there is a lot of scum in the world that harm good companies - but this is a very poor means to deal with it. If I were limited to 5 copies or something, it wouldn't have been an issue (I wouldn't have even noticed.) But one per 24 hour period? That is just a poorly conceived, knee-jerk reaction. I agree that the problem needs to be addressed, I don't agree that this is the way to do it.

Thanks again, all of you. The community here is always amazing. I'm just sorry it had to be on these terms. Merry Christmas and happy holidays to you all.

paladin181: It should be no more than 1 in 24 hours. So try back tomorrow and you should be able to get the gift.
Btw, Gog should just disable the gift option with a clear explanation.

True, I was just trying to help the guy in this particular scenario.
Did anyone get the song I was referencing or am I helpless stuck int he 70s? :P
New customers cannot buy gifts. They can still buy games straight to their accounts.

Somewhere easily found should be explained the limitations (like only one gift code/day).

I have run into limitations in Steam's service so they also have their own.

I even heard Steve singing it in my head. Thank you for that. (sarcasm) :-P
