I tried.
I had +200 games on GOG since release. I preorder IN GOG all CDPR games since TW2 to CYBERPUNK.
Most of the games I had in GOG I previously had in Steam, but the whole idea of DRM FREE games were great, at first.
There was a promise to -really- support GNU/Linux also, that was huge at the moment.
But now, a few months after Galaxy 2.0 release, with not official GNU/Linux support on the horizon, I decided to stop getting new games on GOG that I can also get on Steam.
Yes, GOG has GNU/Linux games. But the store native client IS a huge feature in my choice. I can download the installers from the web, but it lacks features, as cloud saves for example.
Anyway, DRM FREE is great, huge, in the balance is not enough to me as a GNU/Linux user as a customer support.
Valve is not only supporting my user experience with a native client and all its features, but also, in the recent months, with Proton improvements I was able to launch windows designed games in such a simple way, It allows me to almost ditch dual boot to play my favorite titles.
Nowadays when a new games info hot my email with the GOG newsletter, if I'm interest first I look it in Steam. Until last year, it was the opposite.
Yes I use wine, lutris, etc.
Yes I used to have some native GOG games installed in my GNU/Linux desktop and use sync thing to sync my saves.
Yes I tried. But at the moment, I decided I want just the simplicity of Steam for GNU/Linux to play games.
I'm done also expecting and wishing. If someday GOG decide to support really GNU/Linux — its only the client I wanted — maybe I think about choose GOG first again. Until then, I'll choose Steam.
Maybe this message triggers some GOG fans, I am a GOG fan, I am, it's not my purpose. I just want GOG to take notice, GNU/Linux gaming is getting any day better, but not in this store. And that's sad.
