It seems that you're using an outdated browser. Some things may not work as they should (or don't work at all).
We suggest you upgrade newer and better browser like: Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer or Opera

I prefer to only use adblock when a site is slowed down by so many ads, because I want to support sites, especially content creators on YouTube I frequent.

real.geizterfahr: Read the description of the video. He was live streaming this on youtube. Of course Google is listening when you're streaming on one of their services ;)
True, i did watch the followup video.

But wouldn't the targeted advertisements be pretty shitty if it's only relevant to streamers actively streaming?

Whitelist it.

Simple approach.
You can tell your browser to sent "Do Not Track" information to websites in order to prevent them from using your browsing activity for personalized ads and such. By default this option is toggled off, I think.

You can also refrain from logging into Google, Facebook and similar accounts, of course.

And you can use adblockers. I don't really care about the "morality" of doing that, I've seen the internet without adblockers and I don't ever want to visit that place again. :P
