Progress update on Odallus - The Dark Call
Assigned by Bass47

This is my very first metroidvania game and I am not really getting into it that much. Mostly, because I am seemingly notoriously bad at platforming games, or quite simply too impatient. I thought I was a little bit in practice, as I finished Shovel Knight and Escape Goat not too long ago, but Odallus is something different. Resetting enemies and constant restarting of levels, as extra lives are scarce, are simply not my cup of tea.
Nevertheless, I finished the first level and Dark Forest-1 and found the first relic. I will definitely try to finish the game, but will certainly not go for 100% shenanigans and I will also need some time.

Meanwhile, I am playing Memoria on the side together with my girlfriend, which we both enjoy so far. :-)

Cheers!
Metroidvania style games are great, but they do take a while to get going and can often have poor first impressions. That said I've not played Odallus and some of the systems sound kind of... annoying.

Highly recommend Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, any of the GBA Castlevanias or the Metroid series. On PC, Shadow Complex is an awesome game based on that style. It was previously a XBLA exclusive. Shadow Complex is also fantastic for newbies to the genre.

Progress upade on HoMaM III Complete

I have beaten the original Restoration of Erathia campaign. I liked it, but it was preety tough, I heard thet the expansion packs are tougher, so wish me luck :)
Yesterday I finally finished South Park: The Stick of Truth. A very fun experience, but beating it means that I have to decide which game from my huge backlog I should tackle next. My gaming time is limited and I spend some of it in Path of Exile and World of Tanks, so I'd like some help in deciding: I have a load of absolute classics I have put off for years for once reason or another and never gotten around to playing, so here goes:

- Arcanum
- Deus Ex: Game of the Year Edition
- Deus Ex: Human Revolution - Director's Cut
- Fallout 3
- Freedom Force
- Ghostbusters the Videogame
- Grim Fandango (remastered)
- Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor
- Oceanhorn: Monster of Uncharted Seas
- Shadowrun Returns
- Sleeping Dogs
- The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim
- The Walking Dead
- Trine
- Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War II
- Warhammer: End Times - Vermintide
If anyone wonders why I no longer post progress updates: I started playing Eador: Genesis some months ago and now I'm completely addicted to it. I guess I've already spent 150 hors with it and I'm still nowwhere near the end.
Right at the moment I'm trying to completely clear a huge map. I already beat the other masters and cornered the last opponent. Now I only have to find and clear all dungeons (which will probably take at least another ten hours.

I recently completed the Shadowrun trilogy and I loved them all so I'd recommend/pick Shadowrun Returns. It's also relatively short for a top-down CRPG. Took me around 14 hours or so.

Challenge accepted. Shadowrun Returns it is then.
It's really nice to see you all making progress on your games :)
@Jonni: Shadowrun Returns is a good game, I finished it some time ago. It's linear, but the story is well-told.

Sadly, Odallus - The Dark Call proves a though nut to crack and I don't have much time to invest at the moment. Seems like it will take me a little while.
Finally finished Error... I mean Terror From the Deep (had to restart when I ran into a bug and foolishly hadn't been saving in multiple slots) after a number of restarts and issues. Not going to lie... played on beginner and was a total save scumbagger... don't hate me though... I'm not very good at strategy games and the game was absolutely ruthless! Didn't like it as much as the original, it is after all kind of a reskin, but I did love the focus on the sea. Not many games do that and I think the tension is actually higher (even overlooking the increased difficulty) along with the atmosphere!

Time for the next game...

-Albion.
-Dragon Wars.
-The Elder Scrolls: Arena.
-Evolva.
-Expeditions: Conquistador.
-Freespace
-Invictus: In the Shadow of Olympus.
-Jagged Alliance 2: Unfinished Business.
-M.A.X.
-MDK 2.
-Messiah.
-Might & Magic 6.
-Nox.
-Shattered Steel.
-Star Trek: Starfleet Command.
-Stonekeep.
-Subwar 2050.
-Thief 2.
-The Witcher 2.
-XCOM: Interceptor.

I strongly suggest playing this one. Even though MM7 is my favorite, 6 is very good too. Be warned though is rather lengthy

I've heard nothing but good things about M&M 6, so I'm looking forward to it!
Progress update on Odallus - The Dark Call
Assigned by Bass47

Boy, this was a tough game - at least it felt this way for me. Took me roughly 8 hours to beat. As this was my first metroidvania, I am unsure how good it really is. I enjoyed the graphics - yes - and the soundtrack and diverse enviroments, yet overall, I think it was too difficult to really have fun. Actually, I am glad it is over... it just took me more than two hours to beat the final boss. Whew...

Meanwhile, my girlfriend and I have finished Memoria, which is an excellent point-and-click-adventure. Nice story, beautifully drawn backgrounds, good puzzles - nothing to complain about. Later, I found out that Chains of Satinav is actually the first part of this series and bought it during the recent sale. This will be the next game we'll tackle :-)

As for myself, I need a new assignment! What shall it be?

- Hotline Miami 2 - Wrong Number
- Shovel Knight - Specter of Torment
- Warhammer 40k Dawn of War: Winter Assault (Steam)

Cheers!

Progress update on Shadorun Returns
Chosen by GreasyDogMeat

Finished the game today. Definitely enjoyed the experience. The game's combat system felt quite simple at times, but I approached it more as an RPG and the story became quite interesting before the end. Left me craving for more, so I'm going to look at Dragonfall, Hong Kong and Boston Lockdown at some point.

Well worth the ~12 hours I invested in the game.

Time for a new assignment. Added a couple of options to my previous list:

- Arcanum
- Day of the Tentacle (Remastered)
- Deus Ex: Game of the Year Edition
- Deus Ex: Human Revolution - Director's Cut
- Fallout 3
- Freedom Force
- Ghostbusters the Videogame
- Grim Fandango (remastered)
- Legend of Eisenwald
- Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor
- Oceanhorn: Monster of Uncharted Seas
- Sleeping Dogs
- Space Hulk Ascensuon
- The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim
- The Walking Dead
- Trine
- Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War II
- Warhammer 40,000: Kill Team
- Warhammer: End Times - Vermintide
- Wolfsong

Four days and no one has picked something for you yet? Assuming you haven't just picked something out yourself and no one objects to me picking again so soon after picking for someone else, might I suggest Hotline Miami 2?

If you've played the first you know that this game can be downright brutal. Don't think I've ever cursed so much playing a game before. Highly recommend occasional breaks to 'cool down' in rough sections. Luckily the thumping awesome soundtrack carries the game even when dying over and over!

Glad you liked it! Just a word of warning about Boston Lockdown, it wasn't developed by the same team that worked on Returns, Dragonfall & Hong Kong and I've heard it is nowhere near as good but if you enjoyed Returns I can't recommend the other two enough as they're both significantly better RPGs.

I JUST picked for someone else so I'll let someone else pick your next game.

I'm still going through M&M 6. LOVING it, especially the music and the combat system (real time with the ability to go into turn based at the push of a button).

Thanks, GreasyDogMeat, I will play Hotline Miami 2 - Wrong Numer next! I was starting to get impatient, so I asked my brother to choose the next title for me and he chose Warhammer 40k Dawn of War: Winter Assault. I think, I will alternate between these two games for the time being.

I played the first Hotline Miami and really liked the game, so I am looking forward to its sequel :-)

Congratulations on finishing Shadowrun Returns, Jonni! As for your next title, I suggest Day of the Tentacle - Remastered. I was playing Monkey Island 2 during the Easter Holidays with my brother and therefore I suggest this classic LucasArts title for you :-) I have never played it myself, but I assume it will hold up to its name!
