Nymes: So, now I am in need for a new assignment! But I wish to take a break of RPGs or overly long games for the moment. While Dragon Age was definitely a worthwhile investment - remember, I paid 5€ for it and played for around 125 hours - something shorter would be a welcome change. Consequently, I removed some games from my list, but they will reappear at a later stage ;-)
Please choose for me, fellow gentlemen!

GOG Games:
- Bastion
- Battle Realms Complete
- Caesar 3
- Hotline Miami 2 - Wrong Number
- MDK 1
- Nexus - The Jupiter Incident
- Odallus - The Dark Call
- Sacrifice
- Settlers 2 Gold
- Shovel Knight
- Space Pirates and Zombies
- Star Wars - Dark Forces

Other games:
- Warhammer 40k Dawn of War: Winter Assault
- Company of Heroes + Tales of Valor

Nymes: Cheers, and thank you! :-)
I suggest Odallus - The Dark Call or Shovel Knight. I could not decide which one is best :) so feel free to decide for your taste.
I don't have played both games but heard good reputations. and platform games would be refreshing from heavy RPGs.

As for my X3 Terran Conflict.
I fought a M3 pirate. after heavy damaged, he abandoned his ship.
I took the M3 ship, and repaired it for 1 million credits(!) at shipyard, The ship became my main ship. old M4 ship was ordered to guarding my ship.
There are 2 main quests in game. One is fighting pirates/AGI (AI in the game term) and other is trading. After a bit bored to fight pirates, I choice the trading mission for delivering Ores and earned 400,000 credits. Now I have 4 millions credits. The next M2 ship requires 70 millions so upgrading ship will be far future.

I had the same problem as you, so I let a coin flip decide ;-) It chose Shovel Knight! So far, I only heard praise about this game, so I am very excited - I also have a controller, but have to see if it works.

A question regarding the X series: Did you play the predecessors of X3? If so, how does it compare to the other two?

No, This game is the first playing in the series for me. I've heard this game was good entrance in the series.
Progress update on Shovel Knight
Assigned by yoshino

Sadly my older controller was not recognized by the game (but by Odallus, strangely enough). I tried Joy2Key, which worked, but in the end I thought it was quite a clumsy solution. As I have already thought about it, I went on and bought a new 360 controller. It works like a charm ;-)

Now I am four hours into the game and have quite some fun with it! You are the namesake Shovel Knight, on a mission to rescue his lost friend Shield Knight from the claws of the Enchantress and her Order of No Quarter. You find gems with which you can pay for health and magic upgrades, relics and new Armor or a new Shovel. I already defeated the first four bosses, the Black Knight, the Spectre Knight, the King Knight and the Plague Knight. Besides the actual stages, there are other mini-levels or boss encounters on the World Map, which promise treasure and dangers. The game feels always challenging, yet sometimes even really hard. From time to time there are some jump-sections which require quite the precision - that can be frustrating.

The graphics and music are really spot-on - I very much dig them ;-)

Cheers!

Nymes: Progress update on Shovel Knight
Once you finish it you get to go through again as Plague knight.
Yeah, kind of dropped...Despite some nice gameplay elements, Xulima lacks soul. Too damn generic and linear. Seems that the devs are aware of the fact and they promise to do better in the second game. Will eventually finish it, as i do not like to leave things unfinished, but dammit, it feels more like a chore. No enjoyment in it :(

It's a shame, because a there are a lot of good gameplay elements in it, but the whole vibe is completely wrong...

Sad to hear that... I was contemplating whether to buy it or not. It looked quite interesting, but oh well... I still have a lot of RPGs in my backlog for probably the rest of the year or more ;-) No need to complain.
Graphics and sounds are nice, but no personality. Main character is beyond uninteresting and the use of it...And the rest of the party being generated by you..Not much stuff to do with the party characters, either...:(
Civilization IV: Colonization
assigned by Bass47

As a huge fan of the original Colonization I was very suspicious about this title. Newer graphics means nothing to me and Colonization was great anyway so who needs a remake? But even so I wasn't prepared for such a disappointment. It's not a bad game per se, there are many interesting improvements (better mechanics of Founding Fathers, experience and promotions for units etc.) and the game is still challenging as it should be but... the whole atmosphere is lost. I think it should have been named "Preparation for War of Independence" and not "Colonization". That's right, I didn't feel that my task is to colonize a New World at all. For example: somewhere midgame I found a perfect spot for rum production and none of my colonies could make it thus far. But I didn't set up a colony there because it would be impossible to win the game if I did so. Why? Because if I had waited a bit longer with declaration of independence king's army would grow so huge that I wouldn't have enough time (please note - time not armies) to defeat it. After a few games you realize that the game is very restrictive and doesn't let you play it your way. There are very narrow and sometimes counter-intuitive time windows in which you have to accomplish some goals. If you miss any of them you'll probably run out of time. I do realize that in 4X games you usually need to play it several times before understanding its mechanics well enough but in this game they made it purely ridiculous. You can't even predict that some action will lead to your ultimate failure.

So if you want my advise forget this game and play the original instead. That's something I'm going to do right now just to remove a bad taste in my mouth that Civilization IV: Colonization left.
This sale has pushed me over the edge, I need, nay, must start playing some of the 280+ games I own here. I throw my hat in the ring of the Gentleman's Backlog Club.

To that end I have take a section of my backlog and, by row, picked one at random. (Thanks random.org) Here is the list:

Chroma Squad
This War of Mine
Reus
Stealth Bastard Complete
Geneforge 1
The Escapists
Hot Tin Roof
Aarklash Legacy
Xenonauts
A Golden Wake
1954 Alcatraz
Pier Solar and the Great Architects
Cognition
Divine Divinity
Fist Puncher
Un-Epic

Good GOGers, please assign me a game to wipe clean from the never-ending backlog of doom!

I suggest Fist Puncher. It has a rather bad reputation, but I had good fun when I played it last year. I'm curious to hear what you think of it.

Challenge accepted!

Is it sad that I don't even remember buying most of those games?

You have to look at it in a more positive way. If you don't remember them, there's a much greater chance for surprises.

Exactly. Also - it's important to remember how much fun you have playing games :)

Just old good colonization is on sale here.
Your review made me buy the game. :)
