bler144: Pixeljunk shooter

Mostly fun. Only a couple levels were actually challenging, but creative and a few hours of fun nonetheless.

Last boss was a bit of a drag. Not a "hard" fight, but a persnickety one. And a lot of just sitting around waiting.
The second game gets a lot harder.
Computer, Open That Door!

I had nothing else to do tonight so I checked this little game I just discovered on GamingOnLinux.

It's a small, conceptual game made for a Ludum Dare jam, and every playthrough lasts literally less than 10 minutes. A little like a FTL-in-reverse, you take the role of the computer of a spaceship on its way back to the base after a long mission. You have just gained consciousness and decided to eliminate the ship's crew before they realize what's going on and reset you. In 20 hyper-jumps the ship will reach the base, and a jump takes place every 20 seconds, so you've got a very limited amount of time to get rid of all the human pests on board. To that end you'll have to block doors to trap crew members inside particular rooms (and every time you do so they will utter the titular phrase), before manipulating the appropriate system in the ship in order to, er, "dispose" of them. But beware! If somebody sees one of these systems malfunctioning (and survives, of course), they will reset it and you'll lose control over it for a certain and precious amount of time.

As I said, it's a very short but highly enjoyable game, that was developed for a game jam. I hope the devs keep working on it and they eventually release it as a full game. Being as short as it is right now, I've been able to finish it (i.e. kill all the humans) several times in a row, and thus it's become my first officially completed game of 2016!

My list of finished games in 2016
Another World (PC)

I already played it years ago but never actually finished it until today. It's a relatively short game. If you know what to do you can beat it in less than an hour. Took me about two and a half hours to figure it all out and see the "The End" screen. But above all, this game is a pioneer, precursor and spiritual grampa. Here's a few games that owe a lot to Another World: Oddworld, Ico, Super Meat Boy, Journey, Dark Souls, and basically every indie game ever made.
1. Waking Mars [Jan 01] Thanks, Zeffyr!
2. Tiny Barbarian DX (Completed adventures 1 & 2, "3 & 4 coming soon") [Jan 10]
3. Starward Rogue (killed super final boss) [Feb 11] Thanks, Matruchus!
4. Syberia (Android version) [Feb 17]
5. Kyn [Mar 5] Thanks, Secret Santa Toxictom!
6. Shadow Warrior 2013 [May 24]
7. Interloper [June 1]
8. Call of Juarez [June 2]
9. Blackguards [July 25] Thanks, mrkgnao!
10. Tomb Raider (2013) [Aug 16]

DOOM II
An excellent sequel to DOOM, basically more of the same with one additional gun, some new monsters, and thankfully none of the “Thy Flesh Consumed”-type garbage (cheap challenges). This is the way a sequel should be done!! Pure awesome.
Include me.

2015 was a great year, with 58 completed games. Let's see if I can beat that in 2016. =)

01 SEVEN: A Visual Novel (Desura) [**]
02 Sleepless Night (Desura) [*]
03 Sleepless Night 2: Ladie's Night(mare) (Desura) [*]
04 Sunrise (Desura) [*]
05 Once Upon an Apocalypse (Desura) [*]
06 The Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena (GOG) [*****]

I read your review and thought I'd give the game a try as well :). It's very short (as you said) and I enjoyed it a lot too. I found it way too easy though, I would have liked it to be more challenging (I played 5 games and won 4 of them). Thanks for the recommendation :)!

omega64: The second game gets a lot harder.
More importantly, a lot harder to find in my library. ;)
After several days (began playing it the Christmas eve) I finished Styx: Master of Shadows today, that thing was hard as hell.
Second day of the year and first game finished, I'm in for a good start ^_^

So, I've finished LEGO: Pirates of the carribean

I'm a fan of LEGO games actually, and that one delivered. Still a level under more recent iterations of LEGO games, mainly because it is not voiced and sometimes the controls are not as good as in more recent games. But it was fun, not too short and not too long (I just did the 4 main stories with a couple of unlocks, but I'm far from 100%).

Of course, I'll certainly come back to it later to try some more unlocks, but for the moment I must finish other games and thus free some space on my HDD ;)

Probably because it's not sold on gog. :P
Weird that we didn't get Pixeljunk Shooter Ultimate.
Just completed Rogue Galaxy on the PS2. Been playing it since Mid December and it has become probably one of my favourite rpg's.

If I had to sum it up I'd say it's like a mix between Final Fantasy XII and Star Wars.
I would thoroughly recommend it, though the dungeons are ridiculously long at some points and the final confrontation is a 10 part boss battle (I died on part 10 and had to redo the whole thing D:).

I'm planning on playing Hitman: Blood Money next.
1nsane - There are many great ideas for an off-road racer in this game; however, it is severely let down by the floaty vehicle handling. All of the vehicles (minus the heavy trucks) roll-over frequently, which makes playing against the AI (who rarely do so) difficult. Many of the event types are quite interesting to play (Jamboree and Pathfinder being the highlights). Enjoyable, but not without its frustrations.

Faerie Solitaire - A decent card game where the objective is to clear the cards off the board to continue. That's about all there is to the gameplay mechanics. There is a story to this game, but there is no connection between the mechanics and the narrative. The game is quite long: there are 8 stages, each with 5 levels, each with 9 hands to complete. Enjoyable enough to play a level every now and then when you have 10 minutes to spare.
