Just found these links this evening, for both Rollcage and Rollcage Extreme (Stage 2), in a remastered form (improved graphics and sound and updated for more modern PCs), and as free downloads.

It also suggests that a Rollcage Extreme: Black Edition is being considered.

I played the originals a good many years ago, so am looking forward to trying these newer versions out.
Great games, I still have them though I don't see why they needs redux versions, I don't remember they gave me any trouble last time I installed and played them a few years back.
I somehow question if this is legal, the Rollcage games were published by Psygnosis, which is owned by Sony, but maybe it's okay and these guys own the rights.

That was the first thought that was running through my mind when I saw this. Then again, I'm guessing it wouldn't be worth Sony's time going after this guy considering that they aren't selling this game anymore. Who knows though, maybe they might contact CD Projekt Red to sell the PC Psygnosis games through GOG?
Yeah, I'm not sure if he has the rights (although from what I understand, he's one of the original programmers). I don't even thing he could release it just as a .exe file since the code wasn't made open-source.

Not gonna lie, sounds cool though.
Well, thanks! I remember reading about these games, it will be neat to play them. :)
While Rollcage is the best racing game ever made, this is piracy... Rollcage has never been released in the public domain.
Just thought I'd mention that it is even mentioned on Wikipedia:

"Rob Baker, a former Attention To Detail developer who worked on the Rollcage games, has been releasing new builds of the PC version to fix longstanding bugs, improve on outdated implantations of game mechanics and update the game for use on modern operating systems."

And it is linked to on the Steam Community:
http://steamcommunity.com/groups/rollcage/discussions/2/

If these were pirated copies of the games then they would surely have been taken down by now.

Alternatively, it hasn't been worth Sony's time at the moment.

Sony ownes the IP, not Baker, even though he did work on it. Baker do not own the rights to put it in the public domain. This is Abandonware - piracy where the right holder dont care. Still it is piracy.
Thanks!

The Rollcage series have been one of my favorite racing games along Wipeout. It will be great to play them again. If GOG ends up selling them at some point I'll surely buy them.
Well, they both play perfectly. Took a few moments to get used to the insane speed again, but everything works. He's even included the CD tracks as OGG files, including the hidden bonus track, "Corners", for Rollcage Stage 2.
Holy fuck. These games are awesome. I still have the first one installed from disc on my PC, and it still works fine, but I've never been able to get the second one running on my modern PC. Will HAVE to try this. Thank you for the link.

I'm assuming that you're under the mistaken belief that ATD was owned by Psygnosis. They weren't. To the best of my knowledge, ATD owned the rights to Rollcage. In fact, if I recall, Psygnosis/Sony didn't even publish the second one.

Pysgnosis did publish Stage 2.

But yeah, it doesn't appear to be clear who the rights-holders for these games are any more. When I've tried to look into it, some say Sony, others say the rights remained with ATD who went out of business, at which point who knows who owns the rights.

Psygnosis did indeed publish Stage II. And Psygnosis was bought by Sony.

Things are very murky, but AFAIK the IP went to Psgnosis when ATD folded, and then through to Sony from the buyout. I think some years ago there where talks about Sony resurrecting it, but nothing came out of it.

A quick search shows that was only in Europe. Take 2 assumed publishing duties for North America and Midway for "somewhere else" (assumedly East Asia, Russia etc.).
