Maybe the real moderation is the friends we make along the way.

misteryo: Maybe the real moderation is the friends we make along the way.
That was the logic behind the GOG forums five years ago. But it depends too much on the quality of these "friends" (of the humans that constitute the self-moderating community). Needless to say, this logic collapsed horribly. Hence moderators nowadays. Not a panacea, but, damn, when you compare with last year...
I happen to like the fact that there is an active moderator on the forum now. We still have problems, but it has become a lot less unpleasant in recent months.
Good forum managers are part of the community, bad ones are not.

OldOldGamer: As I've been spoiled by a "moderator" post, I've sent a formal complaint about it.
Not even sure if I used the right channel, but here is a few lines I wrote.

===========================================================

I'd like to highlight a general lack of respect from forum moderators towards the community.
In particular "Linko90".

I expect a moderator to "moderate" the forums from abusing the space and breaking the policies, not having pun of customer's posts, even if they appear nonsensical, from a moderator point of view.

This is an example: https://www.gog.com/forum/general/gogs_10th_anniversary_sale_is_here/post113

Moderator are NOT part of the community. They represent the business, GOG, and they should act accordingly.
I don't know if these are full time employee or else, but this episode of poor professionalism, made me considering if GOG is a relevant place where to spend my money and time.
I'm a moderator of some small chat and feel some pressure to engage in activities, which usually I would not do. That means more communicating, than usual when others are not and present voice when there is none. So, speaking from my experience of moderation - MODERATORS ARE THERE TO HELP YOU AND OTHERS. IMO, spreading false claims classifies as bannable if you are not smartening up and insist on doing it further. Pun from moderator is just a human way of saying, that moderator knows about your claim and watches how you behave. Seriously, how do you discuss conspiracy theory?

I voted for SW2 and I'm happy with what GOG provided for free - they are not obliged to do so. I do not see GOG as mere library, but as a service - provided for free(!), that stores my games and safeguards them in case my HDD crash... If GOG decides to not to do so anymore, I would need to fill my HDD(and backup HDD) with games, I've purchased.

No one should demand respect from anyone in any relationship - it has to be earned. Either there is respect or not and sometimes there isn't... but what can you do about it? Demanding respect is oxymora. @OldOldGamer - if your name reflects your age, you should have know about it already... just relax. Life is stressful, but how is it moderators(or anyone else) fault?

Who cares about that, I want to know WTF your avatar is! :P

It's cool but it looks like something from Impossible Creatures, which is sold right here on GOG. :P

hummer010: This is amusing.

For years, lot's of people complained about the lack of moderation. Now, we've actually got someone doing some moderation, and acting like a reasonable human being in the process, and we've got people complaining about the moderation.

Do I agree with everything Linko says? No.

Do I have to agree with everything Linko syas? No.

IMO, the forums are a better place since Linko's been around.

I almost feel like spending time here again since Linko's been around.
The entitlement of people is ridiculous, I didn't particularly want any of the three games as none are all that appealing but I voted for Superhot as it seemed to have an interesting mechanic that I might try at some point if I had it.
Am I disappointed to have got Shadow Warrior 2? Nope. It's not my kind of game, but I will probably enjoy it if I play it and would never have chosen to buy it myself.

Complaining that there was a vote and that it was rigged is stupid, Shadow Warrior 2 was of course the most expensive and biggest name so was always going to be a fore runner, but it's also probably far more widely owned so people may have voted for the others to get something different. Shadow Warrior 2 won, we all got a free game (or a gift code for those who owned it).

Linko is doing a great job, he's pleasant to interact with and you can joke and have fun, but he is more than willing to ban, close topics etc. when it is needed. You can't ask for much more in a moderator.

You should ask Linko to edit your complaint into something intelligible. lol

My view is it looks like a hippo, except the cuddly toy has incorrectly given it incissors instead of canines. They're really frightening animals, if you want to see something that should be from impossible creatures, look at one:

What are you talking about? That was a great joke, and I'm happy we have a mod who has a sense of humor instead of being some sort of detached robot who never interacts with us. Then we'd be complaining that he has the audacity to moderate when he's not even part of the community.

probably best not to wonder too much...

No one would ever know I was tinyE if they met me IRL, and they'd call BS on me if I told them I was.
You'd actually be wrong, in my case. If anything, I think I'm more toned down and reserved here, than I am in real life, if that tells you anything. :P

I'm a lovely person in real life. People always tell me that.

On here I'm a forum troll or something. I'm not really sure why I come here.
