I'm already using my own tools that I wrote which help me when I play, I have ideas for mod tools as well. It's just a matter of figuring out what is the best way to handle everything we can automatically and make sure the necessary patterns are followed so it actually works.

Bundling it up as an tamper/greasemonkey userscript or a chrome plugin afterwards isn't an issue. What I'm more concerned about is whether or not the local mafia community and the admins will be OK with implementing such rules to facilitate automation which on the other hand will add some artificial complexity and overhead for the players/mods. Not that much, but some for sure.

That does bring up a question: What if a potential player doesn't want to install an add-on? Decline them, work around it, or set it up so that it isn't an issue in the first place?

Shouldn't be a problem. If you don't want to use the toolset you can always continue using the forum as it is right now. You'll still get the well-organised posts.

The real issue is enforcing those well-organised posts in order for the toolset to work for the people who want to use it. Calling it an issue is a bit of an overstatement, since the only thing that makes it a problem is laziness. That's why I'm asking if people think it's a good idea - since we'll have to make it a requirement for both the mods and the players to comply with this notation.

Even the champ forum software requires specific formatting for the bot to crawl properly, they just have some UI that makes it easier for people to use. We can also do this in a similar way of how Essentials is augmenting the forum controls.

Ah, I think I understand better now.

We already, to varying extents, enforce a certain amount of formatting on voting at least ("Bold it, or it doesn't count"), so I don't think this will be much of a change. It will be more formally enforced, though.

Exactly. I'm wondering if a bit more is too much.

Before putting the work in you could test it by running a game where everyone has a post restriction ;)

dedoporno: Thoughts?
Great idea! I am in no shape to offer valuable help in development of said features, but I sure think they would be awesome and a great addition to the future games.

Quick question:
if some posts are generated automatically (lets say, vote counts), will all people be able to see them, regardless whether they have scripts installed or not?

Edit: and I just found my answer in #3219

Auto generated posts are something I'm still trying to figure out, not 100% sure it will work but I have a couple of ideas. The more realistic immediate solution will introduce augmentations to the forum's native UI which will make some things more accessible. For example players who have the the toolset installed will see "live" vote counts, have controls for generating the proper voting / unvoting pattern, the mods will be able to generate a vote count or dusk/dawn posts with the click of a button, see last player activity time and so on.

Do share. And your ideas about the mod tools as well.

The μαϊμού can only post in ancient Greek?

Lol - that would be a mess. I can barely even translate middle English. "Whan that Aprill with his shoures soote..." I can manage only because I read the book. Plus translating out is easier than translating into.

"Vote Hijack because he's been lurking" is not something I could pull off.

And probably not all that helpful for developing assist software anyway. ;)

Do you have an example of what the extra might contain? Having watched yogs' games, the benefits are obvious. The Quick Post features from Essential make several formatting options pretty easy.

Might be some growing pains, but I think it'd be worth it.
I think it's a great idea, and I'm more than willing to lend a hand developing anything that needs developing (hell, the AF script as is was born from mafia games ;))

I don't think any of it should be that difficult, as long as players follow the right format. The most difficult bit might be making people spell each others names right when voting... XD
If it will make things better, we'll have no issues..............ONWARD!!!!

But we reserve the right to have issues.
I think it's a great idea. As a mod and as a player, I'd be perfectly willing to accept any post restrictions or whatever.

As long as it's just spelling not case-sensitive.

If the latter, it's totally hopeless.
