Bookwyrm627: Two scum teams of 3 would fit two blockers, however. Competing for different bosses, they'll probably go after each other at least some, which would help offset the high scum count. Teams of 2 seems low for the scum because of exchanging fire, and teams of 4 seems excessively high for town to compete. Adding a whole second team could fit with the setup going from 12 to 16 players (with the fourth extra likely being town). That would go from 9v3 to 10v3v3.
That's actually a decent point. I didn't think of that. It brings a few questions though. Like you said - why was HijacK blocked rather than killed? How many Janitors are out there? If it's only one why would one team have it and the other wouldn't? If they are mirrored we face 2 blockers/jailers, 2 janitors and 1 more thug with potentially a single coroner and who knows what. And most importantly - why not 2 NKs? I don't know, it doesn't seem to add up, but who knows.

I think you're missing an important point. What if HijacK wasn't blocked, but Jailed?
If someone thought he was more likely to die then they could have jailed him to protect him, which makes perfect sense.

I actually had that. I think I swiped it by mistake because I made some changes. That was also part of my original thought that one was scum block and the other one not, but I think I didn't went in detail back then.
Late for work, so no detailed responses. Overall good arguments from wyrm/adalia against the adalia inertia.

HijacK: Should I? I never even got a PM. Saw it quite late. Agent, please confirm there was no PM alert. Also, what you fail to see is that I actually posted soon after I got prodded. Selective reading or what?
On this note, and maybe I misremembered or am not understanding, but Hijack was prodded after 24-36 hours of absence, correct? I went back re-read the OP overnight and at least the way I read rule #11 it seems to say one has to post at least every 48 hours.

Can we get clarity on what rule 11 means and how it will be applied?

I didn't want to point this out before I heard Hijack's explanation, but...if one assumes he read the rules carefully (admittedly doubtful) it would have been reasonable for him to not expect to be prodded at all. Pretty sure he wasn't gone 2 full days.

In any case, drealmer's theory that he was scum who knew he was "safe" doesn't completely hold water imo, for the fact that even scum wouldn't know if there were a vig in play or not. At least for now I'm going with the more likely explanation that he didn't worry about it for other reasons.

I wondered how I'd missed it. Now i know. Also, I've finished catching up on Day 1, so yay me.

This is what I meant when I said block. My bad.

Hijack would have been an obvious target last Night. If there are two scum teams with one blocker/jailer for each, then one teammate may have jailed scum buddy Hijack to protect him while the 3rd member goes a-murderin'. The opposing scum team takes a shot at Hijack, which fails because of the jailing.

This theory doesn't really address the question "What does it mean to be more vulnerable", though, and it assumes Hijack is scum (possible, but hardly proven).

Perfect sense. Perfect! Whomever blocked HijacK MUST be Town then, eh? Was that your idea? Or Wyrm's? I'm sure we can read all about it in your Scum thread when this is over. :)

I hope you aren't really too upset - please know we all love you, and you're giving it your very best! I feel really and truly bad that you've drawn Scum again (you're Kryptastic!), and I hope it hasn't pissed you off so much we lose you.

That said, everyone has checked in. No more revelations are coming. Your doom is nigh. Go ahead and claim now and save us a little time, would you?

I got five bucks says it's either "Town Vanilla" or, now, "Town Jailer". But I hope you surprise us with another adalia special. :)

Nope. I have literally no idea who blocked HijacK, though I suspect they probably are town as it makes little sense for scum to do so (without claiming the action anyway)

And I'm still too far from a lynch to even think about claiming, how about you get your buddies to pile on?

I'm not so sure I'm going down today, but let's see what happens.

OP of the sign up thread (bolding mine):
"You are expected to post at least every second day. If I ever see a '2 days ago' on your most recent post you will get prodded. And other than in other games, this will paint a big target on your back and you will be more likely to die. How? I won't tell."

As for Hijack's confidence: I can see him just ignoring it as something he can't do anything about anyway. I can't see him even pretending to cower in fear of it.

I see that Bookwyrm627 has addressed this, but I had better make it official.

When HijacK was prodded, his last post read "Posted 2 Days ago".

This is the requisite 48 hours, so he was prodded.

This is the guideline that I was told to apply, that was applied, and that will be applied in the future, unless Lifthrasil decides to change the guidelines.

flubbucket: Thank you for sharing your sentiment. I need to take break (actually needed to already) because the vibe is not fun.
By the way, just wanted to step back and address this.

I hope it’s just RL and work stuff, and nothing to do with the game itself. Well, no, I mean, I don’t hope real life is not fun, but I hope the game itself isn’t the problem. I had just been thinking to myself this is probably the most relaxed, funny, humorous, chilled-out game I’ve been a part of. HijacK is being a good boy, lots of people making jokes, lots of dry humor – tons of good stuff! Heck, leonard is on the endangered species list, and he’s been hilarious!

True, it’s Forum Mafia, so there’s been accusations and recriminations and we’re lynching people – but nothing out of the ordinary. Several people have already noted (and I’d like to echo) that P1na wasn’t lynched because of his playstyle. He was lynched for a much more old-fashioned reason – “Ye Olde Scum Slip”! Nobody wants to drive him away for being silly. We neede MOAR SILLY!!!

Hopefully it’s also not because you and I are on opposite sides. I hope you can tell how much I’ve been trying to get you to laugh. I replaced your voice with a trombone. A trombone! The most hilarious of all musical instruments! I even challenged you to a rap battle. Think about it! The glory! Up on stage, bouncing phat beats – you could even wear your chicken hat! Your Momma’s so fat she ain’t posted in a week-and-a-half. EPIC.

Hope the work catastrophe is manageable and can stay at work and you can relax tonight with an adult beverage (one that you no doubt smuggled over the border) and get back to… you know… finding the Scum! Hee hee.

GOG's forum software places the "2 Days ago" header at the 36 hour mark. All prior days are similarly offset by 12 hours.

In that case, I guess I had better restate myself...

Lift told me to prod people if they have their most recent post shows "Posted 2 Days Ago". That's what I'm going on.

Yeah, I was rushing. Too computer longer to boot up than expected, more posts to read than I expected, yada yada, and up starting my post as I was supposed to be out the door for work.

The core problem with what I posted is, as Kryp might note, is that the possibilities aren't mutually exclusive. Hijack may not care for reasons having nothing to do with being scum and he might be scum nonetheless. I guess my point was that I'm skeptical of drealmer's suggestion that we should use Hijack's prod as "evidence" or even a significant basis for speculating on his alignment.

Indeed. That's an important clarification.

I'm not trying to be a bureaucrat/jerk (is that redundant?) about this, but that is an important distinction. The way #11 is written, and looking back at it I wouldn't have expected to be prodded when Hijack was. He wasn't killed and seemingly suffered no other impact directly. So the only possible impact on gameplay was if the room-lock was intended as protection, in conjunction with the if that person would have instead picked JMich to protect. Possible but pretty unlikely combo.

So I'm considering it a no-harm, no-foul, but I did really want to get clarity as prods do seem to have some implication for gameplay that could matter later, even if we (or at least I) don't yet understand it.

So thank you to agent/yogs for sorting it out.

I think it's up to us to figure out what prods do and don't do, and I kind of think of that as part of the fun of the game. (Was Hijack jailed as a penalty, by town, by scum? Some other unconsidered mechanism???).

I consider the matter at a rest - DON'T let your last post read:

"Two Days Ago" - and really if you're lurking that hard you missed the point where Lifthy told us this would be a "Lurkers Beware" game!

And bler if you really want true clarity that badly - you always have the option of not posting for a few days and seeing what happens. But I don't want deus ex moderator ruining the fun in advance!
