mistermumbles: Isn't it time to bring the Nordic games back? =P
avatar
IAmSinistar: It definitely is. There should be no barrier to that now.
Nothing's changed there actually. In the initial thread about it Nordic made clear the non-static prices for their games on GOG were the issue. They didn't want to be unfair to all the other retailers they had deals with and they didn't feel it was worth the extra workload for their (small?) company to contact/update those deals every time GOG changed their pricing.
Nvm. Dancing in the rain.

IAmSinistar: Here is the list:
There is also Teenagent and the other free games. Unless the Russians got a discount on that too??

Matruchus: Nope, that wasn't Nordic. That was Frictional games.
It was Nordic.

"- Our own equal treatment principles remain coherent; we do not want to put one of our partners in a special place and cause a stir with other partners

What do we mean with the last point exactly?
Given gog.com’s decision to aim for an exchange-rate orientated pricing would leave us in the unenviable position of constantly having to adapt our pricings in all territories on- and offline to ensure an equal treatment. As exchange rates are very dynamic in nature with the potential of shifting rapidly, and given our network of more than 100 off- and online partners, this will result in a significant amount of extra time and work. For a company of our size, this can result in a non-manageable effort and will heavily impact our work hours, which we would like to dedicate to all the great games in our pipeline (such as The Book of Unwritten Tales 2, SpellForce 3, The Guild 3, MX vs. ATV Supercross and many more), rather than constantly adapting our global pricing structure. Ok, I stand corrected.

Did I mention that I'm angry at GOG. I remember them saying that flat prices are fair and publishing videos of how much of a rip-off regional games are.

Guess, it's time to search again for the famous videos. So here they are:

GOG.com "Regional Rip-off - Why Can't Gaming be Fair?" Trailer
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DzIYJ15CMbk

and The Downfall GOG.com introduces regional pricing

Since we always end up searching for these two precious links, perhaps you should ask Judas to add them to the "Community Stickies Compendium 4.0".

mrkgnao: What about if people have to pay LESS because their economy is BETTER? For example, Russia, which has a much better economy than practically every country in Africa and most of Asia.

Regional pricing has nothing to do with standard of living.
So because GOG does not account for every region they should not be accounting for any? The prices are set based on a certain "normal", which is the US- or EU market, so a region below that standard can get preferential pricing. Yes, it does suck for people in places with a standard below Russia when they have to pay the standard price, but that doesn't mean no one should get it. We don't know how many games the Russian market is buying as opposed to for example the African market, so maybe that's a factor as well.

Simply put, it is unfair, which for me is reason enough not to do it.
Well, from 100 to 900 games :(
And those statused as [Upcoming] will be for sure regionally priced when released.

Grargar: "Just in case you wondering, introducing these price changes won't affect the way gifting works today on GOG.com."
Notice the emphasis on "today". Because that will change, it's only a question of when. While I believe the humans as a species are nobles and all that shit I'm 100% sure this inter-region gifting will be abused which will put pressure on publishers/gog to "do something".
Basically all we'll have left will be drm-free (which is indeed strong I have to admit). and then copy-paste-regional-shit.

Gifting of russian games was regionally locked before so there won't be any changes about that. The question only is if gog will regionally lock all the regions like steam did.

For witcher 3 yes.
For the rest, no, as far as I know. Maybe someone more informed can shed some light on this matter.

I don't know but I seem to remember gog implemented the same regional locking for russian gifts a couple of day after steam announced their new regional locking system. I might be wrong though.
I prefer Steam's regional pricing, as it actually benefits my region.
