Ok now you're making me angry...
It started off as a new and creative game which became successful. Unfortunately the developer of the game is going down the same route as call of duty developers, which is to keep making sequels and milk the franchise.

Nah, I think Smosh Games did it best: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vmI56fbkGfg (also see their videos on the first two games: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tuFiC_PzjXY https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u5fkLeinUQI).

lols- true true
No thanks. If I want horror, I'll take something that doesn't rely on the character being an idiot above and beyond the call of duty, cheap popscares, and a fandom that's managed to outdo Sonic in turns of obnoxious.
I can go five nights long...wait this is about a game isn't it?
It seems the enormous popularity of the franchise is not proportionate to the quality, and that annoys some people. It also makes them feel really old and alienated. ‘THIS is what the kids are into?!’

Maybe being constantly exposed to this sort of generational divide by my younger sibling has softened the blow when it comes to this sort of thing, but I have nothing against Five Nights at Freddy’s. It’s a decent idea, fairly well presented, and for some unfathomable reason it blew up in a huge way that will have corporate executives scratching their heads for years to come.

Just… please tell me why the player character keeps coming back after the first day. How badly does he need a paycheque that he’s willing to spend all night with a bunch of possessed murderous robots?

Well the main robot in the 3rd game...is not really a robot:

The fandom exist becaue these characters are increadibly recognizable. Who remembers any monster from Silent Hill thats not Pyramid Head? There all just lumps of brown and red meat.

And poor Resident Evil being passed off as just another Zombie game completely ignoring the other unique monsters.

Hell this franchise overshadowed the overratedness of Amnesia the Dark Descent. And I thought that game was overrated.

Flappy Bird is so 2014. We need Crossy Road!

Why does anything happen in those games? Why does it require power to keep a door closed? And if power is such an issue, why is the fan still running?

Really, the games are just silly, and don't even take themselves seriously. They are more comical than horror, and I think a lot of people overlook that. They look at it seriously and try to compare it to games like Silent Hill or FEAR, and of course Five Nights at Freddy's doesn't hold up. What do you expect from a $5 indie game?

But I think it's the overpopularity that makes people have high expectations which leads to disappointment.
We don't need crap on GOG .

Speaking about robots . When GOG offer American McGee presents SCRAPLAND ?

Actually I was there since day one. But while I had my fill and realized this game is cheap with its difficulty and thus moved on. Everyone else stayed and become superfans.

And yes I truly think the fanbase is more for the comedic value than actual serious horror. Know Your Meme seems to understand:

Cyraxpt: Yeah, i'm on the "hate bandwagon" (if you want to call it that), the game is overrated and it only got to where it is thanks to the obnoxious youtubers that overact with this type of games, oh no, a monster appeared on the screen, let me scream real hard and fall of the chair because that's "funny".

There's better horror games out there that i would rather see on gog than FNAF, better yet, just play FEAR 1 and FEAR 2...
OK, to set the record straight, I like jump scares in a game... not those which make me run away screaming like a schoolgirl but actually put a "chill" down my spine. (Sometimes jump scares do that though.)

Imagine when you're home alone and you hear a noise at the front door, you are not sure whether or not you locked the door last time you went out. As you get closer to the door and go to lock it, the handle starts to turn.

I've had that happen to me once and when I saw the handle turn, it sent a shock down my spine. It turned out that it was our cat who actually grabbed onto the door handle with her paws in an effort to open the door.

Now those are the types of games I'd like to see!

What about American McGee's Alice? I have that on CD and while frustrating, it was fun to play!

Guess I'm one of the few here who likes them. Oh well, I'm used to being the odd-man out. Also, not 14 or simple minded. 43 and crotchety, thanks. :-)
I really don't understand the crap these games get. They are pretty good games, especially when you consider the price and the fact that its developed by one person. The back stories are fairly deep, and there are quite a lot of details embedded in them. I find them to be somewhat scary, but mostly nerve-wracking. The jumpscares are punishment for doing it wrong. If you do it right you won't get one. For me, the scary comes from the anticipation of the jumpscares, the stress of trying to make them not happen.
That being said, they aren't THAT scary. They aren't "great" games. Probably 6 out of 10 on average. But again, at $6, $8 and $8 I don't expect the same things I do for $60, $40 or even $20. They aren't classics. They are decent games.
And yes, the fandom is quite obnoxious. But I just try to ignore that and enjoy the games for what they are.
I also can't blame the guy for milking the franchise a little. He put out three games of roughly the same quality and for a fair price. I do think now is a good time to stop though.
Anywho, enjoyed them, but they aren't in my top 100 games list or anything, and Silent Hill 2 is certainly in no danger of being overthrown.

And my point continues, there are better games, FNAF doesn't even have much gameplay, you're just sitting on chair looking at monitors and waiting for the... "things" to appear and you have to control the energy levels. It's simplistic and dumb.
Why play that when there is games like Alien Isolation, Silent Hill 2, Resident Evil Remake, Outlast, Amnesia, Condemned, Among the Sleep, etc, you can argue the price (and the drm) but you can buy them during sales and it was about bringing the FNAF to gog therefore it would be better if it was one of the others games that i mentioned coming here.

And while we are sharing scary stories, i was watching that White Noise movie (kind of crappy, i know) and the MOTHERFFUCAJSKLDHASJDSHA... breath in, breath out... ahem... the painting on my living room feel of the wall and made a really loud noise, i mean, by itself it would make anyone jump but watching a scary movie while that happened, dammit!

Edit: Just checked and before someone says it, gog already has Outlast, Amnesia and Among the Sleep.
