Rohan15: They Live is a classic movie about conformity and subliminal messaging under alien control (Yeah, it's weird, but awesome).

Foxhack: AND IT HAS THE MANLIEST MAN FIGHT EVER.
:D
I recently watched 2 more films, one the awesome Creepshow (Which I didn't realize until now had Leslie Nielsen in it, and he was just damn terrific) and this piece of shit; Carved, a Japanese horror flick about an abusive mother turned Edward Scissorhands. Just avoid this one, it was fucking terrible.
Galaxy quest (USA, 1999).
Nurse. Fighter. Boy (Canada, 2008).
Last one I saw: I've just watched Revenge of the Sith again.
Even though I knew full well what was about to happen when, it was still great to see it again.
Some recent movies that I saw and liked were: Pineapple express, Taken and Underworld 1&2.
And of course original Toxic avenger.. Just kidding. Saw that about 10 years ago.
Just finished Inception and last night I watched the Adjustment Bureau, both well worth the time. I think the Adjustment Bureau was a bit better, but they'd be tempting picks for a must see movie list.
Rented Zombieland last night and enjoyed every single bit of it. Great fun.

Cambrey: Galaxy quest (USA, 1999).
Could not agree more- what a great family adventure-comedy.
Attack the Block : Really enjoyed it.

Never Back Down 2 : Bit of a guilty pleasure but I usually like anything with Michael Jai White.
Have to add a strong "Second" to the recommendations for Moon! Great film! First real Sci-Fi film I've seen in years.

Aniketos: Recommend:
The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford - A long movie that is well worth the time spent watching it. Very fascinating to me.
Glad this total sleeper western has gotten a shout-out in this thread, because it's actually my favorite film of all time. Ever--from the silent era of German Impressionism onwards. Everything about it; script, location, musical score, cinematography, set design/costumes, casting, line delivery, pace, narration, and especially tour de force acting from Casey Affleck and numerous supporting actors (Sam Rockwell, Garrett Dilahunt, Sam Shepherd, Jeremy Renner...even it-girl Zooey Deschanel gets an extended cameo) just comes together as a masterpiece of a character study about an infamous outlaw in the middle of a his own slow suicide and the gunslinger who idolizes him. Andrew Dominik took his cues from Terrance Mallick very well.

Most recently I watched In The Soup, a 1992 indie-film. Bit of stylized black-and-white meta-movie about a struggling would-be director (Steve Buscemi) trying to raise money to make his magnum opus and win the girl-next-door (literally in this case, played by Jennifer Beals) who waits tables at his favorite diner but won't give him the time of day. It's a fantasia made of a little bit of early Coen Brothers, a little of bit of Mystery Train-era Jarmusch (who has a hilarious and very winking bit part), and a lot like Wes Anderson before there was a Wes Anderson. It had its moments; worth seeing once. I liked it more for showcasing early Buscemi than any original plot points, as well as character actors like Will Patton, Stanley Tucci, and a pre-fame Sam Rockwell as a mentally retarded (!) son. Seymour Cassel sort of stunk up the screen after awhile, unfortunately.

Saw True Adolescents, the new "mumblecore" film which finally got a DVD release. Not the best of the genre. Mark Duplass plays more more obnoxious, douchey, immature version of his "Puffy Chair" character in a "life lessons" morality play about the role of adulthood.

I've been meaning to see Beginners, Sarah's Key, and Another Earth, which are already out even if I'm a bit "meh" on all of 'em. Really looking forward to Brighton Rock and The Future, however.

Takashi Mike's 13 assassins- Akin to 7 samurai but far more visceral and the short character vignettes are interestingly done for an action flick. The fight scenes are also very gruesome ---which is fitting for a movie of this sort.Compared to Henry:potrait of a serial killer and Ichi the killer this one is far more - mainstream but it does have its moments(some very disturbing ones)

Jacob's Ladder - Interesting premise even though I could predict the ending.

Ironclad - Splendid pseudo realistic medieval castle siege flick..
the guy who plays the knight templar is pretty good.

The Black Death 2010 - This one is an even better medieval flick than ironclad(Not an action movie but espouses a bleak and grim atmosphere which is fitting considering its title).... Has some very graphic scenes..

Both Ironclad and Black Death are very well made Indie films that are far better than any mainstream period flicks that I have seen with the latter being somewhat reminiscent of diablo(they even have a necromancer in this one which is pretty sweet --no demons though)

BTW 13 assassins is interesting and in a way very unique as it is an action movie that is not entirely bereft of meaning....A sublimely magnificent action movie that is a homage to Akiro Kurosawa's Seven Samurai.

Recommendations: All of the above

Other recommendations: Vampire Hunter D:Bloodlust - An exemplary anime in a western setting - The English dub is very well done and this one could give any of its live action western contemporaries a a run for its money - This is a rare horror western and a particularly good one. I would recommend it to even those who generally don't like anything that is animated considering how well made it really is..

Lionel212008: Jacob's Ladder - Interesting premise even though I could predict the ending.
One of my all-time favourite movies, in spite of Macaulay Culkin. There were so many hints and clues about the ending (a few persons even saying it out loud during the film) that apparently the director didn't mean the ending as a real twist that will take everyone by surprise. :) It was more like "how long can you live in denial, denying the inevitable that deep inside you know to be true?".

Wrong thread I guess, but yesterday I saw the "Slumdog Millionaire" on TV. It was ok and I didn't really get that bored during the movie which is always a good sign, but still I was expecting quite a lot more based on its 8 Oscars, 4 Golden Globes and whatnot. I guess 2008 was a dry year for movies of Oscar material then.

Lionel212008: *snip*
The Black Death 2010
*snip*
That movie is awesome, and it has incredibly grim ending :)

And of course, Sean Bean :)
As for my all time favourites : Shawshank Redemption, Pulp Fiction, A Clockwork Orange, Grave of the fireflies(anime),Carrie,Borat(a must wwatch), The Watchmen (directors cut - I like this better than the dark knight as this is perhaps the best superhero flick that I have seen),Let the Right one in. Groundhog Day, Ringu and Shaun of the Dead

Special Mention :American Psycho - Christian Bale is a fantastic actor and this is perhaps among his finer performances. He could actually be the ideal lead to play The Joker if he weren't already playing the protagonist. I wonder how the movie would look if the roles were reversed (Ledger playing Batman and Bale as the Joker-)...I guess he just looks better as Batman.

Special Mention:Perfume:The story of a murder - Beautifully shot, evocative while being creepy and intensely disturbing at the same time...

Special Mention:LA Horde - The closest thing to a movie adaptation of Left4Dead

Recommended crap movie: Dead Heat (probably the only movie featuring zombified food stuff - Porky looks especially good here )

I know that we are talking movies here but if there if you're into anime then you must absolutely check out gungrave coz its like the godfather meets dead heat - lolz (Told ye those japs could come up with some crazy stuff) - if you haven't seen it already.

Support your local gunfighter (USA, 1971).

I had a good time watching this one of a kind western movie. James Garner is really good in that movie.
