guynamedbilly: FYI at least for the mean time, Oblivion and New Vegas on Steam are still drm free. Fallout 3 on Steam used GFWL and is a headache. I think Morrowind was also drm free, but not sure.
Ah, I didn't know that, thanks. Personally, I didn't have much trouble with Fallout 3 on Steam either; maybe they removed GFWL by now. (Or I applied a quick and easy fix and forgot all about it.)

Too late, Oblivion supporters are severely outnumbered in this thread. They should surrender now, resistance is futile. [^_^]

For me, it comes down to that. I find myself preferring science fiction stories over fantasy.
Heavily modded Morrowind ?

Ancient-Red-Dragon: New Vegas has good writing, deep & well-developed characters, a multitude of different ways to complete most of the quests, and plenty of player choices that affect how the characters behave & how the story plays out. It's pretty much everything you could want in an RPG.
Actually, these are the sort of things I *don't* want in an RPG. I would prefer just having a game with nice turn based combat, an interesting growth system, but without any quests, NPCs, or large amounts of writing to wade through.

Then again, if there are going to be quests, it helps if there are multiple ways to complete them, especially if there are interesting ways that the developer did not intend.

(I did mention this in the other thread someone (probably you) posted this in.)

I prefer fantasy to science fiction, particularly since I really like being able to use magic; it's more fun than guns and rocket launchers.

Well, the game itself has several endings for New Vegas, some of the characters and factions.
As for variety in quests, one example comes to mind: you can perform brain surgery on a very important character and:
- if your Medicine skill is low, your luck is low and you still decide to follow through with it, you'll probably fail (the patient dies) and then you may try to convince people (through Speech/Medicine or reputation check) that it was not your fault
- If you have a certain follower, you can "delegate" the surgery to them
- If you have enough Luck, you can still perform the surgery successfully (results same as in the last case)
- If your Repair skill is high enough, you can repair the autodoc so that it performs the surgery (results same as below)
- If your Medicine skill is high enough, you get to choose what the outcome of the surgery will be. And depending on your attitude towards this particular character, you are free to either be either their savior or slayer.
I don't think I can add anything new considering all that's been said for both games, I've been where you are in the past (well actually nowadays I can't buy anything other than food) and what I did was the following.

In your case, which setting attracts you the more, since both games are worth playing. Once you've picked the one you can be sure eventually in the future you'll be able to afford the other option and so have both games.

It all comes down to which one you're more interested in right now.

My 2 cents!
