timppu: Oh yeah, down there in "other"... I just love it how people, who don't even reveal their country of origin, tell how weather or politics are back at their home country. :) It is hard to think if they are talking about the situation in Germany or Zimbabwe.

Lucumo: Here at the "other" place, it's usually pretty cool ;-) Too bad winter came and ruined everything.
Yeah, the Zimbabwenian winters, I've heard about them... not just snowflakes, but it is raining snowballs, sometimes even snowmen!

While I have to admit it's gotten a lot better lately, back within the bounds of normality really (a few degrees in the positives over daytime), it's been a hell of a winter this year, and it still has plenty of time to show some more fangs.

Currently, even most of the Danube has frozen over due to the prolonged polar temperatures, and it gets pretty wide down here in Romania. Several ships and barges have been trapped in the ice and are waiting for the single river-side icebreaker the authorities have to come to their rescue. Ironically, the icebreaker is also having issues getting past some major ice-blocked points.
God damn it. Our local grocery store has a sign in the vegetable section explaining that the poor weather in southern Europe is causing shortage on many items, e.g. cucumbers. Hence, the cucumbers in the store cost much more than normally. I guess I won't be buying much of cucumbers for now, then.

Here the temperature has been lately up to +5 C (raining etc.) which is quite warm for January. Still too cold for raising cucumbers though (unless doing it in heated greenhouses, but those especially tend to cost a lot).

We also had a period with various shortages in supermarkets, including fresh vegetables, however it never got too serious (but that's only because they had a buffer stock, not because the supply trucks could find a way to get through all the snow).

Fun fact though, in case of supermarket supply chain apocalypse, I now know, at least, what item I'll run out of first: ...*drums rolling* ... toilet paper.

Yep, your really know the shit has hit the fan when the toilet paper aisles in local supermarkets look like they've been plundered by hordes of raiders and only left-overs are still around.

John223254: Hi all. I, too, have encountered this problem, and my family has complained that it is freezing at home and something needs to be done.
Don't worry, due to GLOBAL WARMING it's suppose to make the seas boil and destroy the earth surface and make it unlivable (due to a 2 degree increase by 2100)... at least according to climate alarmists.

Though said predictions says the north/south pole should have been ice free back in 2014...

look another dvoter bot... did the last ones got banned?
I invoke a wild mod to close this thread please... there's no polar vortex over my part of the world (or much of Europe) this year, in fact I have not seen snow at all this winter, while Turkey, Greece and Israel are getting record snowfall. I've heard it even snowed in the UAE of all places. The climate's in shambles.
