Now free: "What Remains Of Edith Finch"
What remains of edith finch seems to work without the epic launcher if you launch it from your installation folder. At least download the game if you want and save it somewhere because they might patch it , like they did with subnautica

How where you able to run it without the launcher? If I open FinchGame-Win64-Shipping.exe inside Epic Games\EdithFinch\FinchGame\Binaries\Win64 I get a 'The UE4-Finch Game Game has crashed... Fatal error!' message, then the game reboots starting the Epic Launcher. It continues running after closing the Epic Launcher once the game started, but it sure is a messy way of 'working without the launcher'.

*edit: I found the solution! Just like with Subnautica, add -EpicPortal to the target path of a shortcut you create to FinchGame-Win64-Shipping.exe

I wonder what the masses will think of Epic once the freebies stop. Because you know at some point that will happen.
I'll just keep hoovering up the freebies until they run out at the end of this year, and that'll be that. I have no interest in supporting forced third-party exclusivity.

Yeah I figure that's a pretty common practice with Epic right now. Gamers are using them until the freebies dry up and then bailing.

Don´t be so fast jumping to conclusions. The gamer that plays Fortnite or similar games without worries probably wont care about the client if Epic manages to secure as exclusive the next big thing everyone has to play "right now, right this instant". Time will tell.
For me, i will also grab the freebies as they come along, and make a nice little backup, if they are drm free, wich so far they are, kind of. Who knows, maybe in the future i wont care about using the client.
And i did have alot of fun with subnautica, reapers and all :) .

I think it's obvious that a portion of their traffic come from freeloaders who want those free games. I'm personally not interested in Fort nite or Epic altogether. But free games are free games. GOG and Steam are enough gaming platform for me.

I'm there just for the freebies too and glad the first two can be run without the client, with workarounds. Epic means another launcher, which I'm not very fond of. Plus there's no reviews or help fora in their store, which also makes it far less attractive than GOG as a store. Origin or UPlay manage to get playtime from me, even though they too are lacking reviews or fora, but that's mostly because of some big franchises (Battlefield and Crysis on the hand, Assassin's Creed and Far Cry on the other hand) that are well-known already and don't need the boost of positive reviews to make their existence known and if you run into a problem with any of those, there's loads of sites with helpful answers to be found with Ecosia.

I took SMB, Subnautica & What Remains, but I'm sure I'll skip jackbox.
I skipped Super Meat Boy and I will skip Jackbox as they're not my kind of games, but a score of 50% games I like isn't bad. In February I'll know if number 5 is a likeable game for me.
I redeem whatever free games they offer, but I'm not sure if I ever even bother to download them.

That store is so wrong in so many ways. To begin with, there's not even a proper way to browse their game catalog. In comparison, Steam is nearly great store.

What I do appreciate is that they are very open about their freebies, they announce them before hand, and there's no scammy features like running out of free keys or giving games only to selected customers. Of course it's a plot to increase their userbase which they started from zero, but at least so far it's one thing that they are doing right.
epic store isnt gonna do anything its just another launcher, i mean discord has there own games store and loads ofpeople use that the only AAA title thats new on it is darksiders 3, only launchers i have are battle net and GOG galaxy, i wont touch steam, origin or any others, i want my games DRM free and the more people who leave steam the better,

I bet it will not. Today giveaways happen almost every week. So it wouldn't be a stretch to suggest that Epic could find enough devs who would want to give away their game for free to have more exposure.

Just do the math. Epic offers free game every two weeks. That means 26 games per year. Considering how many games outhere (even good and relatively well known) have almost zero price this shananigan can continue for years to come.

Yup. That's confusing the shit out of me, too. There's just the start page and... that's it. No way to search or sort anything. I don't even know how to have a look at my library without starting the client oO Not that it matters, since I only have Subnautica and Edith Finch there (skipped SMB and will skip Jack).

Even GOG has a great store, compared to whatever it is that Epic has there ;P

Nah, honestly... All stores have their flaws. On Steam you get games like Rainbow Six Siege, Playerunknown's Battleground and Arma 3, when you browse top selling strategy games (what the...?). On GOG... well, search always had its flaws and they're doing more wrong with every redesign, but the shop still offers some functionality. On Origin, all I see is Battlefield DLC. Can't say much about UPlay (didn't launch it for two years, I think), but I remember that it wasn't that great either. But Epic? It's lacking the most basic features that every store should have! It'll become a huge mess pretty quickly if they don't introduce something better than "Here's our start page with games sorted by the date they arrived on our store".
