Cadaver747: Thank you. Now all we need is to forward that email to Adventure Soft.

i_hope_you_rot: Received this reply from Michael Woodroffe a few minutes ago .

In actual fact they own the rights to the character “Elvira” and we own the rights to the “game”.

Our license to use the character expired some time age and was not renewed.

For the games to appear on GOG or anywhere else it would need both of us to agree.

I’m happy to talk to them if they are interested.

i_hope_you_rot: Forwarding it to Scott D. Marcus .
Man you're a amazing! (not irony)

Wow, amazing work!
Good luck! I would instabuy.
I'd much rather have Dark Seed 1 + 2
Last I heard was the licensing rights to the old Elvira-stuff are quite / very expensive.

Because of that the second Elvira movie was not re-released into the HD-age (Elvira holds all rights on this one) and I expect the same for the games.

I am interrested, too, but my hopes are quite low... sorry...

hey, weirder things have happened on GOG. I'm not discounting anything at this point.

That Scott D. Marcus guy might re-think his initial offer for Elvira games and make a discount out of good heart. You never know.

I suspect the licensing rights for Giger's works are the obstacle there.

You suspect right. There were already infos about that, the Giger estate wants horrendous licensing royalties. Maybo you can even google that article...

i_hope_you_rot: We do own the rights but we do not have the code.

Cadaver747: Thank you. Now all we need is to forward that email to Adventure Soft. But something tells me that developer already asked for the rights but rejected the royalty amount deal.
avatar
karnak1: Thanks. Guess that explains it.
Sad about the rights, though. The first game is a true horror classic.

Cadaver747: Could you please contact Adventure Soft company?

Sent them an email. As many have stated they'll probably answer that they don't own the rights anymore.
But if I get a reply I'll post here.

According to post #15 we already established that IP rights to Elvira character are with Queen “B” Productions, Inc (Scott D. Marcus) and rights to Elvira games are with Adventure Soft (Michael Woodroffe)

And user i_hope_you_rot already informed both parties

Thanks. I hadn't seen the post. I guess now they'll really know that people are interested.

EDIT : And thanks to everyone who voted on the wishlist for the Elvira games. Maybe someday we'll get these classics back.

I hope they'll come to an agreement. At least we can be sure that Elvira games will not be rejected by GOG if it happens since we have Waxworks and other titles from Adventure Soft.

fortune_p_dawg: i discovered these games accidentally on a friend's computer back in the late summer of 1995. had no idea what they were at the time, but they were different, and different is good. hardly got to play them tho, so i'd definitely pick them up here.

Cadaver747: I discovered Elvira games on my "IBM PC compatible" computer and also on some cassette for ZX Spectrum. The games were good looking and very hard, I always died and decided to let it go. Could try them now since I know a few words in English and can understand what is happening there. Elvira games would be a worthy addition to gamer's catalog.
I'm shocked as you seem to be quite fluent in our replies back and forth.....are you using on then fly google translate or what? :D

Many sites(such as one I use for such things) have working/stable versions of both games.....I would even recommend them as afaik no one is seling them atm anyways.

And this is why I do NOT support massively long terms for Ip ownership in any circumstance. It just prevents people from enjoying works for an unfair length of time just so someone can make a few extra bucks(or their kids can after they pass).

If we got SS 1 AND 2 we can get these here as well, imo.

As long as they don't say they are "too niche" like other games...remember, most such games were added well before we had curation. :|

Oh yeah, too much sugar plus free time and paid internet pawed my way to Google Translate, my only tool to communicate with others on GOG.

They [GOG] can't refuse another Good Old Game from established publisher with high votes on wishlist.
My concern is that Adventure Soft most probably tried several times to negotiate the deal with IP holder to publish their games but got an offer to pay $25 royalty for each copy which can't be sold for more than $9.99 (2 games bundle) or something like that. At the moment we can only wait and hope for the best.
