To be honest, how realistic is it that GOG could release Horrorsofts Elvira 1 and 2? Is it difficult to obtain the titles due to the copyright stuff? Waxworks and Personal Nightmare are available.

Might be something to do with licensing the Elvira character.
If you haven't already voted for them on the Community Wishlist, that would be your best bet at contributing to getting them here. :)
Ah, almost 600 votes already. :)

Well more than that, depending on how you count all the votes on the duplicate wishes. : )

Well, now that that's out of the way, let's all try to figure out how this wish's "title" was supposed to finish. (Apparently Juleea was trying to write a letter to GOG in her/his Wish title =D ).
Sorry everyone for necro'ing this post. But I'd like to call upon your attention for the fact that - after so much time - we're still lacking the Elvira games on GOG.

If I'm not mistaken their rights are still in the hands of Adventuresoft. And since GOG is still selling their other games, I see no reason why they wouldn't sell Elvira here as well (unless there's some sort of copyright stuff I'm not aware).

I know that the second game isn't the best adventure game ever, but the first is one of the best survival-horror games I ever played. And still highly playable today for those who like horror adventure games.

You can find the wishlist links in the posts above.

Thanks for your attention and drop a wish if you can :)

Are you absolutely sure about that? Because the games are still advertised in the company's store (even if they're not being sold anymore). Still, GOG or some other company could try to reach Cassandra and reach some agreement.

Thanks for the info.

I can't be absolutely sure even that I live at the current moment. As for the laws I know that there are at least 3 types: franchise ownership rights which should be licensed (Elvira intellectual property), publishing rights (the chosen publisher) and the specific rights related to game developing (the original developer person/team/company which created original lore, characters, stuff, etc.).

So I understand that Horrorsoft/Adventure Soft have the rights for the game but not for the franchise. It's the same as with Baldur's Gate games, no one can sell/publish the game without prior consent from Wizards of the Coast/Hasbro.

There you go, they're not selling it because they don't own the rights anymore.

It's was probably some leftover original stock they were selling. I don't think the game was a huge seller.

Thanks. Guess that explains it.
Sad about the rights, though. The first game is a true horror classic.
Received a reply for my email from Scott D. Marcus .

Q:
Is it Cassandra Peterson who own the rights of the Elvia games that were developed by Horror Soft ?
If yes , would she want to release the games on Gog ?
A:
We do own the rights but we do not have the code.

Thank you. Now all we need is to forward that email to Adventure Soft. But something tells me that developer already asked for the rights but rejected the royalty amount deal.

i discovered these games accidentally on a friend's computer back in the late summer of 1995. had no idea what they were at the time, but they were different, and different is good. hardly got to play them tho, so i'd definitely pick them up here.

I discovered Elvira games on my "IBM PC compatible" computer and also on some cassette for ZX Spectrum. The games were good looking and very hard, I always died and decided to let it go. Could try them now since I know a few words in English and can understand what is happening there. Elvira games would be a worthy addition to gamer's catalog.

Received this reply from Michael Woodroffe a few minutes ago .

In actual fact they own the rights to the character “Elvira” and we own the rights to the “game”.

Our license to use the character expired some time age and was not renewed.

For the games to appear on GOG or anywhere else it would need both of us to agree.

I’m happy to talk to them if they are interested.
Forwarding it to Scott D. Marcus .
