DarrkPhoenix: While the topic choice is one that, in the past, has certainly been able to work GOG members into heated arguments, it's become highly overdone at this point and no longer carries the impact it used to.
I think it's the third one like this within a week. We should get some bot to just answer those with copy-pasted replies from previous threads.

tronsuser: 2. Game developers are now at liberty to stop us from launching our games, on a whim, if they want. The dev tells Valve that someone is 'disruptive' (which is a vague enough term to encompass things like protesting about paid mods), and Valve presumably then take their word for it.
Not entirely correct:
The effects of the game ban are determined by the developer, and must be consistent with a VAC ban, such as being prevented from playing online with other players and/or trading items for that game. It cannot prevent the user from launching and playing the game offline. It cannot prevent the user from using Steam.
So basically it's a multiplayer ban if you're considered to be disruptive. Which, if you want to believe the people advocating for Galaxy Multiplayer, is not a part of the game but a service that's provided, which yes, can be taken away if you ruin other people's experiences.

Honestly, we can only hope GOG will do the same with disruptive players through Galaxy.

Thanks for setting me straight on that point. The FAQ has been updated since I did my research, which was when Game Ban was introduced some months ago (the week after the paid mods debacle IIRC).

This is a partial relief. I'd still like to see the word 'disruptive' defined in some detail. Until then, it doesn't single out those who 'ruin other people's experiences', but anyone the developer doesn't like.

tinyE: hey cyberchief.

Long time no see. I thought you were dead.

cyberchief.979: Now i only post if i have problems with GOG games.

tinyE: Like the problem of no one giving them to you?
Some of your comments have a little bit of poison. I like that. :p

It's not like devs can just go around banning people willy nilly though, not only do they have to be 'approved' to do so, you can report them if you feel it's unjustified

Will Valve review developer requests for banning in any way?

Developers must be approved to use this system, and Valve reserves the right to revoke access to the system if the developer abuses it.

Do players now have to appeal bans by contacting a game developer directly, or can this go through Valve/Steam customer service as well?

Players should first contact the game developer if they wish to appeal a game ban, since the developer has the data describing why the ban occurred. If a player feels the game developer is being unreasonable, he/she should contact Steam Support. If Valve determines a game developer is abusing the ability to apply game bans, Valve can remove the ability for that developer to apply bans in the future.
