cyberchief.979: Why are you guys bashing Steam so much? I use both it and GOG, so why the hate?
1. Because it locks us into content updates that
remove content or
introduce product placement, and other annoying stuff like that. This stuff is baleful, and it can't be rolled back.
2. Game developers are now
at liberty to stop us from launching our games, on a whim, if they want. The dev tells Valve that someone is 'disruptive' (which is a vague enough term to encompass things like protesting about paid mods), and Valve presumably then take their word for it.
3. If changes are made to the Steam EULA, and we don't agree, then
our only recourse is never to launch our Steam games again.
Valve have shown their true colours in trying to push paid mods on us. I don't trust them anymore. I don't want a corporation to have a say in whether I can launch my game or not. My new stance:
DRM-free or nothing.
