Hi guys, is there a way to check if I have set a limit to the speed at which I can download games from gog? Now that the gog downloader is no longer here and with me using the direct downloads using Firefox, I can't see if I had somehow set a limit in this regard. I upgraded to a 4G modem yesterday and my speed tester showed me getting over 20Mbps, but when I download from here I get a solid 1.2Mbps - no faster, no slower. That is still a lot better than what I'm used to, but I'd like to do better if possible. Does anyone have any other suggestions at what I should check to see where the problem lies if it's not here? Please explain in layman's terms - a techhead I'm not. Thanks!

Try downloading an item from another site, for example a new Nvidia or AMD driver, what have you, and see if the speed is any better.

I have fast internet, and can download 6 streams at between 800kbs/12.mbs each. That seems to be the cap (at least for me) that is set, you can't open further streams, nor get fast than that regardless of you connection.

There is a distinction here. Firefox measures downloads in MB/s. Your ISP is probably measured in Mb/s. The difference is that one is approximately 8 times the other. Mb/s = Megabauds (bits)/second. MB/s= MegaBytes/second. A byte is 8 bits, so you will ALWAYS see more Mb/s than MB/s. Make sure you're actually comparing the same unit of measure (capitalization counts) and then you can look further into the problem, which is likely other internet traffic or routers on the path from GOG to your home.

Gog limits download speed from the store to somewhere around 3MB/s in my area. Its not long ago since it was limited to 2MB/s. While Galaxy goes up to 10MB/s on good days and is usually around 5-7MB/s.

I guess you are talking about MB/s and not Mb/s since that would mean your actual speed is: 2.5MB/s.

Thanks for the replies so far, but I don't even understand what MBS vs Mbs is. Let me put it another way - It took 43 minutes to download 2.9Gb. What does that translate too? Is that still slow or am I expecting too much? And no advice on PC settings that I might check to see if I have accidentally limited my download speed?

Firefox shows download speed in MB/s which means your maximal possible download speed is 2.5MB/s if speedtest.net shows 20Mb/s for your connection.

Normally you will only reach half of your alloted bandwidth so you are around your limit there. Its has nothing to do with Firefox.

Thanks Matruchus, at least now I understand better. So that means that 1.2 on Firefox is not too bad.
