If it doesn't use an abacus, then it's not old-school!
I didn't have time to watch the videos but thank you for bringing my attention to Serpent in the Staglands, strongly reminds me of Darklands and could turn out to be an interesting game so I'll keep an eye out for that one.

jdsgn: When I was a wee lad, dinosaurs and streams of lava still were present on earth and we didn't call it RPG, we called it 'struggle for survival'.
Pffffffffff, youngsters!

nightcraw1er.488: Dinosaurs and lava, you had it easy! But you try telling the kids of today that and they don't believe you.
Yeah they're all like 'what is that can I buy it in App Store' ...

DCT: back in my day we were playing we were playing Dungeon and DnD on mainframes
We preferred to keep our basic rulesets and data in nonrandomized serial hard storage devices. Better known as the Players Handbook, Monster Manual and Dungeon Master's Guide.
Is this the same fluent that started those nice video reviews on RPG Watch?! If so, we are honored.

Manuals and Handbooks, feh your lucky back in my day we used to have to write everything down in the dirt and let me tell you it was hard to keep everything straight.
Thanks for the link, liked what I saw of Valk Chron, will be back for more, cheers :)

You're very welcome!

It's a pretty fun game, and Darklands was a big inspiration for it. If you get a chance to watch teh videos I made, you will see some of the basics of the game and how some of the mechanics work.

Yes, same Fluent! =)

I am a writer, editor and moderator for RPGWatch, and I just started my own Google+ community, as well as a Steam group which you can find on Steam called "Fluent's RPG World". Check that out because it has my very own Curator list of RPG recommendations!

Here's a link to it: http://steamcommunity.com/groups/FluentsRPGWorld

and my Curator list: http://steamcommunity.com/groups/FluentsRPGWorld#curation

I also run the YouTube channel which is dedicated to all things RPG video games. =)

Anyone else interested in joining? We're already having a discussion on the Steam group about our favorite RPGs of all-time, as well as tons of good stuff on the Google+ community. Already there have been several art pieces posted, RPG wallpapers, some discussion about rare RPG gems and more.

So don't snooze, people. Come on over and join the fun! :)
Recommending the "remake" abomination of Schicksalsklinge instead of the original trilogy ? I hope you got paid for that one.

awalterj: Serpent in the Staglands
That just sounds awesome.
I used to be one of those with graph papers and several pens ready for every available RPG (oh, how i hated those spinners).

But right now I am one of those lazy guys moaning if there isn't a auto-map function.
Only exception i would make....Pool of Radiance. Can't help it, but i love that game.

Hey, I quite enjoyed the remake! It had a shaky launch, but later patches fixed things up nicely and I'd recommend it to anyone interested in the Dark Eye setting and ruleset. :)

Agreed! And it plays pretty well, too! Check my YouTube channels for video demonstrations I made for the beta test of the game. :)
