tinyE: How the hell do you provide a photo ID on line?
avatar
ReynardFox: They want a scan of some form of ID with a photo (card/passport etc) along with a photo of yourself.
Yeah that wouldn't be too hard to fake.

Here is my ID by the way:

Isn't everyone expected to have a digital camera on them at all times nowadays via their mobile phones?

I had to take my photo with a 3DS. XD

So, identity theft?

Indeed, I happily keep mine deactivated at all times haha.

Hah. Yeah I love how it does absolutely nothing to prevent fraudulent accounts.

Well to be fair, they do seem to be an actual legit business, afterall they gave me an instant refund. They just really don't know what the hell they are doing. Plus the 3DS camera is so shitty that my submitted photos wouldn't be worth a damn to anyone trying to use them fraudulently.

I remember a few years back (when i was young and naive) when this happened to me, i bought a game from one of those dodgy websites and one hour later the email pops up ransoming the key for a scan of my passaport/id.

"Dear customer
Do you know anything about Mafra?"

---

"Mafra is a city in the same country that i live."

*30~1h without answers*

"If possible, can you share what is the problem with the purchase? And i would like to know an additional information, the serial key is send by mail/postal service? I thought that was send by email (just double checked the emails sent and i just saw something about shipping adress).

Thank you for your time."

---

"Dear customer

We are sending keys via email, when your order will be processed you will get your key within minutes.
Please send scan or photo of your front and back ID card, passport or driving license (valid government document in colour, which has not expired) with hand-written order number on paper.
We are required to ask you of this as a security measure, so we can be assured that we are dealing with legitimate client, not a scammer.
Please be assured this is a common procedure, you would be asked for the same by Paypal and many other Companies which deal with customers online.
It's a one - off procedure and once it is complete, we will destroy any and all copies of your ID's.
This is a one time procedure.
You will not be asked for it again in the future.
Sorry for any inconvenience caused.
Thank you for your cooperation.
Please retain all history if you reply to this mail."

---

"Sorry but i'm not going to share that kind of personal information with a website, I'll wait an answer, thank you."

*several hours later*

"Ok, you are taking too long to answer beside asking for unreasonable request's (since i'm already certified by paypal), i would like the serial key that i bought or the refund. I'll wait for a quick answer, thank you."

---

"Dear customer

The reason why we held your order for investigation is because our security system detected some suspicious activity carried out on this customer's account. Actually, our security system works in a lot of ways to detect suspicious payment, which I can not share with you the details.
Please kindly understand that since there is risk and fraud sometimes involved in online transactions, we need to deploy this security system to protect our users.
I would like to suggest you send us that scan of your id card as we requested, then your case will be resolved.
We are very sorry for any iconenvience."

---

"I understand that it's your security procedures but i'm not willing to take the risk of compromising my personal information, i'm sorry but if i'ts not possible to proceed with the transaction i would like to have a refund. Thank you."

---

"Dear customer

Since our system indicates a high risk, we need to run a simple verification procedure.
Once it is complete we delete the client's ID from our system.
All we need is your first name, surname, name of the city you live in, date of birth and expiry date of your ID.
You may put a writing on the scan, saying it is for G2Play.net,
You may put a black bar on the photo blanking your eyes, etc.
You may also take a photo of your ID using your mobile phone."

"As i said before, i'm not going to do that, i'm sorry, if you cannot send what i purchase then would like the refund then please. Thank you."

---

"Dear customer,

You can blank out mentioned things so there's no need to worry.
Thank you for cooperation.

Best regards "

"I'm sorry, i know this is your job but no, i'm not going to do that, i would like the refund please. Thank you."

"Are you able to pay using different payment method like paysafecard or paypal mass payment if we will refund you?

Regards"

---

"No since i don't have a paysafecard account and i'm not well informed about paypal mass payment. "

---

"here's small tutorial for it http://www.tipsandtricks-hq.com/how-to-make-a-paypal-mass-payment-1934
If you will make such payment you won't be asked for anything.

Regards"

---

"Thank you for sharing that information and even after reading it, i already decided that i just want the refund since we both already lost too much time for a simple purchase,"

*few minutes later*

"Just to update the situation, already received the email confirming that the refund was made. Thank you".

ReynardFox: Retail copies use the same limited activation key DRM as the GR download. :/

Unless you mean the console versions, because I do own this game on Xbox 360, but dammit, I love this game and want to legitimately experience it with high resolution and high framerate on PC..
no such thing
the pc version is a direct port
what you see int he xbox 360 version is pretty much what you get on the pc
with the multiplayer mode hacked out of it

Damn, that was quite the ordeal. :s
Time to buy some identify theft protection. If you actually scanned a photo ID, then they have your photo and name, which can do some damage. But if it is a gov't issued ID, then forget about it. Your ID is stolen.

Anyone who needs more than money to buy something besides alcohol and firearms, is crooked.

Incorrect. I have run a pirated copy of the PC version and it does indeed run at 60+fps and in proper PC HD resolutions, it's actually a very solid port.

No, I didn't go into this so blindly that I thought this wasn't an actual business, because really it is, I got the result I expected in the end. Also the scans I sent in were so blurry and worthless no one could legitimately make use of them.

Like i said, i was dumb, if i had said that i was going to ask paypal for a refund because they were refusing to give the key, that conversation would be way shorter.

Ah well, we learn from our mistakes.

I knew gamesrocket's DRM free would come with a catch, I knew I should have just trusted my gut instincts. Last time I let desire run away with my brains that's for sure.

i have the steam version
noticed very little difference other then better textures
or maybe because im just closer to a smaller screen
The whole "scan for ID"-thing makes me think we're in cyberpunk anti-utopian future now. Or maybe I'm getting this old.
I know the problem doe, but now its too late i got scammed 25€ and still no response of the website. ;(
