Well that escalated quickly.

If you cast your mind back, you may remember Jim Sterling’s back and forth with Digital Homicide after he did a first impressions video on their title Slaughtering Grounds.

Since then, the Romine brothers – who constitute the developer team at Digital Homicide – have launched a lawsuit against Sterling (legal name James Stanton), stating that he has “falsely accused [Digital Homicide] and caused damage” to the tune of $10 million dollars.

The brothers were using crowdfunding for legal fees initially, but that avenue had to be abandoned when “harassers” began “donating amounts specifically to cause charges rather than donations and charge backs to cause financial fees,” according to Kotaku. They have since decided to represent themselves.

This week, Digital Homicide has taken things up a notch.

According to these court documents provided by Sid Alpha who talks more about this in the video above, the brothers are also suing 100 Steam users and have subpoenaed Valve in order to get these people’s personal information.

James Romine is now after $18 million dollars in this personal injury suit.

Over on the NeGAF thread, there’s a lot of head scratching going on as everyone tries to figure out what it is Digital Homicide hope to accomplish.

Have you got any thoughts on this bizarre case? As always, chime in below.

Incoming bankrupcy and total shutdown of DH.

How did you manage to find post 404?
Hehe, that did get a small giggle out of me when I copied the post address ;-)
Bad-ding kishhh.
So they want to sue people that disliked their game and voiced their opinions? Did I get that right?

That's about what I've gathered so far.
Suing the sun would be a better alternative. You know... the obvious heat damage to the brain.
So DH managed to get a subpoena sent to Jim? This is interesting... I'd have to look up what all it entails, but even if Jim turns in everything he has about the case to the courts, they are still going to rule that his opinions shouldn't have been any worse for their products than the products themselves.
This is serious. DH are so clearly in the wrong here that the GOG forums are having to side with Steam, and I'm pretty sure that's one of the triggers for the apocalypse.

Falls into the "if you say any words I don't like about me, my game, or well just about anything, I'll sue you" category of frivolous lawsuits (obviously). :) Hopefully it is in a state where such lawsuits award the plaintiff with paying legal fees for both sides plus a penalty. :)

Forgive me if I'm stating the obvious here but I'm of the opinion that this company is totally committing digital homicide on themselves.

*insert sitcom laugh track*
I see they're going for the redout ending.

Cause when that's done, it'll be nothing but red in their accounts.
This sounds like a joke that actually followed through. Like. "Wow, these guys were stupid enough to sue Jim Sterling? What's next, are they going to sue all Steam users who didn't like it, too? Ha ha ha!", and then they actually did.

The games they make are so good though.

Seriously though I love the fact that Jim's fans turned an "insult" from DH into a meme.
They called him Jim Fucking Sterling Son in their first response video.
So that's what people call him now. :P
