I'm really disappointed in GOG, the whole point of the website was to give gamers more freedom, this is the opposite of that.

Don't usually comment on this forum but this is a very poor and disappointing decision by GOG hope to see it reversed.

I am glad I have a physical copy of Devotion, but I am sad because many people can't get to enjoy the game or support the creators.

I actually believe that part. Not that it's the real reason, but it's plausible that it has happened. Nationalism and propaganda do that to people, to the point that they will believe that defending a dictator is the same as defending themselves. Steam also had many Chinese users review bombing the game until it was removed, according to the article linked in the first post.

I mean, who thought this was a good idea? Not only should they have known there would be blowback from China, but by not taking responsibility for their own cowardice and blaming "gamers" they have pissed off leftists and people on the right.

I'm inclined to believe that anyone capable of decision making fled the building so everything has been left up to an offbrand Roomba with a dart attached to it.

Addendum: I sent an email four days ago inquiring into their hiring practices, and haven't even gotten a "Thanks for insulting us" or an automatic, "the inbox is currently aflame, your email is 2905 of 1295953, please wait..."

And they had to have known it was going to happen and they would recieve massive amounts of messages from chinese people looking to upgrade their social credit scores. So what was the point of announcing it at all if they were going to tuck tail at the first sign of resistance? It's not just cowardly company, but a stupid one as well.

Yeah, I don't doubt that there was a Chinese troll army messaging GOG to drop this game the moment it was announced. It's something they should have expected to happen and I'm hugely disappointed by how easily they gave up on this title.

Winter sale has started! After adding 40 games worth around 300 bugs checking the forum before pushing that purchase button what do I see? This! My first reaction was: Oh my GoG what are they doing now? They are really working hard to alienate us. What next, GoG? First a 土下座外交 to Chinese party dogs and next? Removing games which they perceive anti Chinese/anti party or propaganda? Doing this is one thing. Putting blame on gamers you have taken it one step to far. You could at least be honest.

In consequence this sales came and went and my basket will remain empty for the time being. Voting with ones' wallet I guess this is called. :-)

Got to add my disappointment here with GOG, whilst its not a game I would of brought their response has annoyed me more than anything.

You don't listen to users on forums about GOG things, yet listen to a select minority (most who are not even GOG users) on Twitter or whatever.
