Day 9. Happy Boxing Day, everyone!

Hey, Grinches Of Gaming - when are you going to address the Devotion situation? Do you have enough messages from gamers yet, or shall we continue?

Patias: Let's do the calculation among us, users who participate in the discussion on this topic. I ask: did you know this game? Did you know that there was a criticism of the Chinese government in this game? Please excuse me to give my previous opinion that most of the answers will be "no". I would like to include myself. I had never heard of this game, I was unaware of any story involving the President of China and Winnie the Pooh, nor did I know that GOG itself was present in Chinese territory.
Correct. The only reason I was even aware of the game's existence is because I saw it in a "games you can't play anymore" video. If the PRC goons hadn't thrown a tantrum over an easter egg in the game, it would 100% just be another walking sim I'd never, ever care about.

Not me. I have been a fan of Red Candle for years and was waiting for this to come back. Regardless of all the other users posting here who hadn't heard of it, I would still be complaining like I am now. This is not a bandwagon issue for me, it's a personal one.

So GOG is just gonna employ the "ignore it until it goes away" strategy about being owned by China? Very cool.

Why not? It worked wonders for Blizzard.

Good work mate, we need to keep this thread highly active on p.1 of the GD forum, to send a strong message to GOG that we are not going to forget and simply let this drop.

For anyone that hasn't yet voted it, the wishlist entry for Devotion is here:

https://www.gog.com/wishlist/games/devotion

It's at 8100 and still climbing. Add your voices to the growing chorus of 'Many Gamers'!

Oh, hey Breja.

I wasn't following Blizzard's case for at least few months.
Did they ultimately get away with whole HK - China BS?

Long ago. As soon as they released trailers for the new WoW expansion and Diablo 4 all their fans forgot all about that mess. Now Shadowlands has apparently sold very well, got good reviews too. It's as if nothing ever happened.

Patias: The practice of censorship is not only morally condemnable from the point of view of a Democracy, it is also condemnable from the point of view of strategy of the one who wanted to censor. What happens is what I call the "boomerang effect".

The act of censoring aims to prevent a message from being shared, except that once something is censored, this content gains a much more public dimension than if it had been ignored.
That already has a scientific term coined for it: Streisand effect.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Streisand_effect

In practice it works like this:

Someone tells you "Don't think about Barbara Streisand!"

But since her name was mentioned, you can't help but to start thinking about her like "Oh, wasn't she that country singer with huge bazookas?!?".

But then you both be like "No, unless by bazookas you mean her nose. You were thinking of Dolly Parton."

After that all you can think about is massive noses. The Streisand effect.

Any updates from GOG about this? My wallet remains closed for the site, since I haven't heard anything.

Nope. It seems they are really going with the "we ignore it for a good amount of time and hopefully it goes away" tactic.
Devotion, Barbara Streisand and Winnie the Pooh walk into a bar called GOG...
