Howdy everyone, I thought i'd help ease things on whats happening with orange door, both as dev tester and supporter, and friend of Andrew.

Q: Why is the game being delisted from GOG?
A: It's been said on the record that, quote "GOG is a hassle to push updates for, theres little to no communication, no workshop support for modding in the future and generally not a good enviroment for a game still in early access". It was also initially not even added onto GOG by him, but by his publishers.

Q: Am I being scammed? Whats going to happen with my copy?
A: If you have a copy of orange door on GOG, you are entitled to a free steam key, simply contact either Andrew#3004 or any of the moderators in the discord.

Q: Dev seems like a douchebag, why is that?
A: Context is everything, and Andrew has an extremely satirical and sarcastic attitude. He will almost instantly apologise if he came across with any malintent. It's also worth noting that GTTOD started development in 2015, gone through numerous overhauls and had a small mental breakdown when 'The Excessive Update' released to negative reviews. This isn't at all an excuse to excuse his behaviour, but it is worth noting.

If you have anymore questions feel free to ask me and I'll answer them to the best of my ability.

"[...]but on GOG it has like a 3/10 and on Steam it has a 9/10 [...]".

"[...]gone through numerous overhauls and had a small mental breakdown when 'The Excessive Update' released to negative reviews."

Looks like bad ratings and reviews have a strong impact and they are the real reason behind the decision.

Hey, thanks for passing on the message from the dev. I see where he's coming from, apart from the bit where he makes no effort to understand why people wouldn't want to use Steam. GOG absolutely needs to improve on this stuff for developers, but from a consumer point of view GOG is often the only DRM-free option.

For those of us that don't want to deal with DRM, the disadvantages of GOG still pale in comparison to the disadvantages of Steam.

I wish Andrew well, but hope he gives a bit more thought to the reasons people don't use Steam.

It would be interesting to see if he's willing to release the game on another DRM-free store that doesn't give him dev-side problems. A lot of people who are on GOG for the DRM-free games aren't GOG-only, they're DRM-free-only.

I guess the Galaxy API that other devs use for pushing updates, don't work for this one then. Definitly GOGs fault.

Cheers for actually reading man! Maybe there'll be an alternative option in the future for the release of this game, though I wouldn't hold my breath. Steam has plenty of issues that are a pain but GOG (from what i've seen and heard over years) seems quite outdated. No DRM is cool as hell though!

If you ever want to discuss with the dev, hit him up! He's almost always willing to respond to messages and questions and clear up any misconceptions.

I don't really use Discord, but I'll bear that in mind. There's something I was in the process of adding onto my post when you replied so I'll just add it here as well:

ΔV: Rings of Saturn is a good example. They are also a small dev and they don't have a problem to regularly update the game.

Even though he's probably reading the fourms right now, if you recommend any DRM-free alternatives, let me know and I'll see what he thinks about them!

No workshop support is a pro. Games should NOT be built to lock in modding to a specific platform. A grand total off zero games should support "Steam Workshop". It's an anti-feature with one goal: to make gaming worse by locking people in to Valve's exclusive platform. (Modding is GREAT. That's why it shouldn't be tied to Workshop.)

As for Steam keys, they have a negative value. Yes, less than zero value. I would sooner give up PC gaming with my existing library than to even create a Steam account. Steam has done immeasurable -- and continuing! -- damage to the PC gaming industry. And I happen to like PC gaming. I don't want to be a horrible person and contribute further to making things shittier.

So, yes, my above hypothesis is correct per these responses.

As for "pain in the ass pushing updates"... Like I said, plenty of other teams large and small have no problems. I wonder if it's his workflow. Did he tie Steam Trojan horse features too tightly to his code that it's painful for him to do alternate builds, for instance?

"no communication with GOG" is indeed damning, however.

For what it's worth the game doesn't have DRM on Steam and I'm all but certain that's never gonna change.

What in the world are you talking about
NOBODY wants to go on a random ass sketchy site to download an unknown file to then extract it to the game files and pray for it to work
Steam Workshop is a button click. The platform is the most popular game library in the whole green Earth. There is absolutely zero reason for you to be so much against it.

I really wonder how the devs of Low Magic Age are updating their game here. They had about 20 updates last year and in the past few days there were two updates.

Low Magic Age and ΔV: Rings of Saturn are both in dev titles and they show that something has to work in the background.
Well I guess I'll ask GOG for a refund then... 15 months after buying this. First time I have to refund something here. I hope they'll accept it considering the situation with the game being incomplete and being soon delisted.

If youd like to, the developer will give you a steam key for the game if you show proof of gog purchase to him
