The solution would be to package it in a 'pre-activated' form. Maybe that's what GOG tried to do, but it would appear that they've failed.
Am I the only person who thinks this is a big problem?

It's no different from any other game with DRM. GOG may not be able to change it, but the developers could. The game shouldn't be here if its DRM is still active...

Wow, a game with DRM on GoG. Didn`t know that. It`s totally possible to remove this kind of DRM by the developers. They didn`t, so that`s their fault and they shoulod be banned from GoG.
That it`s possible shows Torchlight. I own both, the boxed and the GoG version of the game. The boxed has to be activated via a key, the GoG version doesn`t have to be activated.

yup - same issue with steam - and NO CD / Auth key to speak of...
my point is, it should be there to begin with. had the same thing with the humble version of tower of guns - pointed it out to the dev (as it was logging my playtime on steam as "unreal developers kit" - he made sure it got updated and removed the dll from the drm free version!

Man this blows :/ maybe some day I will find a proper patch or something to remove the key thing from the game to just enjoy it.. Damn drm ruins everything.

I think this depends where the game saves the key, many games (Two Worlds 1 and 2 come to mind), require a key which is automatically installed by the GOG installer.
If Defcon saves this key differently, there's nothing GOG can do.
People are so quick to cry DRM for almost every little nuisance these days. Look at it this way - you bought the game, you insert the key and done game is at your mercy, no internet required. No DRM there.
