Siegor: Quite an interesting read despite my mediocre french language skills. Please feel free to provide any more info as I'm sure I'm not the only one interested in the current french political landscape.
Hell, the news just mentioned Marine Le Pen's headquarters being raided by the police pending an ongoing investigation.
Since the story broke up, the guy deleted a huge chunk of his tweets (going from 50.000 to 500). But a lot of screenshots have been done. Now the big question is if he's gonna be prosecuted or not. To check the potential latest infos, you can follow the hashtag on twitter:

Now on Marine, If I recall well, this raid is about the investigation on "fictious" jobs (jobs that only exist "on paper" and get paid) at the European Commission. The alleged sum is about 300.000 euros. The right-wing candidate (François Fillon) is also on investigation for the "job" of his wife.

zeogold: Is there an English translation of the article? I can't read a lick of French.

The translation's a bit spotty, let me see if I'm understanding this correctly...
Some columnist had this alt account he used to make random offensive rants, then he was eventually found out?
There's something about either the media supporting him or whoever he was writing for supporting him since they didn't know he was running this...?
Would you mind explaining the significance of it a bit? I mean, I feel like I'm in the general ballpark of it, but I could be way off due to having the context screwed up.

So, you have Mehdi (Maghreb origins) who comes from the French suburbs (the poor ones) who participated over the years in several well-known and established left-wing medias as a "speaker of the suburbs". During this time, he created an account on twitter under the name "Marcelin Deschamps" (old-school French name) to somehow make a parody of the far-right by tweeting racist insults, etc. The thing is that while it could have been some kind of "temporary experience" (like journalists who make fake wikipedia pages just to prove that the system isn't perfect), he pushed it really far (50K tweets over the years) and by checking some of them, you could guess that the account became his "real" voice (like "kill all the whites", "death to Charlie" and so on which isn't the kind of stuff nationalists post). The story broke up (started by far-right activists) as he was featured this month on the cover of a high-profile magazine along with the former Minister of Justice.

This story goes well hand-in-hand with PewDiePie's case at questionings the line between humor (even if it can be tasteless) and real thoughts.

catpower1980: As for contributing, I would have answered the post N°38 by Thyrrhia by pointing out the current case of Mehdi Meklat which fits the thread perfectly but as people here are oblivious about France, I refrained to do it. One linked article for "interested" people:

Ah, thank you! I hadn’t heard of that and I didn’t even see it on the television—did they suppress it or was I simply not there to witness it? (I must confess that I’m more into U.S. politics, now.) Anyway, why am I not surprised?

ZosXaos: Who knows who's pulling the strings...
George Soros is the one pulling the strings (if there’s no one higher up, that is).

There is no way to look at that without that guy being a bit of a douchenozzle...
Either he was deliberately lying to the right wing and trying to make them look like idiots, which is a douche move, or he was sharing his actual opinions in a way he hoped wouldn't get tracked back to his public face, which is a douche move.
Honestly. What a douche. Hah.

I guess it isn't "visual" enough for prime-time on TV. As the story only emerged as the trending topic of Twitter during the week-end, the reactions in the press got a bit delayed but most of them covered it (at least in their online editions). Even Taubira made a Facebook post. This story will be forgotten in a week but I'm very curious if he's gonna get a fine of 16.000 euros like Henry de Lesquen as they're more or less in the same range of penal infrigements.

Hmm. Possible, even though that doesn’t stop them from often reporting about President Trump’s tweets.

vsr: So many questions and so little time. If you'll think about it, you'll find answers.

ps: You are not The Puzzlemaster. You are The Questionmaster.
Master of annoying everyone with your questions, without expressing your opinion.

zeogold: I ask questions in order to be more informed on the subject and reasonably form my opinion. If you don't question things when forming an opinion, you're walking into it completely blind.
So, basically you're saying that you have no answers for me or would rather ignore/not address my points, considering your response is basically "lol go look it up"? An honest "I'm not sure how to answer" would be appreciated rather than an insult, which, if you have to revert to in order to defend your point, is a good indicator that your position is terribly weak.
No, you've got me wrong.
Basically I'm saying: Bye.
Wow, another of those entertaining discussions about left and right. We really hadn't had one for such a long time. Do you political geniuses realize that you repeat same crap on every political thread on this forum?

I just hope this time the targeted figure does not cave in. So far PewDiePie has not caved in, but knowing the kind of people we seem to be dealing with, they will harass them until he picks a side, just like with JonTron.

PDP seems to be taking it in stride, which is a trait that fascists aren't well-known for. Hmm....
