The DRM-free initiative.

We've always been on a mission to offer you games with no DRM protection whatsoever. Today, we want to start taking things a step further, help out people who bought a retail game with DRM, then ended up stuck with something rather unplayable. We can help you enjoy your favorites once again, and this time around, enjoy them DRM-free!

There are countless retail games out there that don’t work for various reasons: unsupported types of DRM, system incompatibilities, broken features. There's too many too count. Starting today, owners of several retail titles originally sold with DRM can get a digital copy of their game completely free at GOG.com: with no DRM as always, compatible with modern operating systems, and with plenty of goodies to boot.
<span class="bold">Reclaim these games, DRM-FREE:</span>

Editions released worldwide:
-S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl
-S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Clear Sky
-S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Call of Pripyat

Editions released only in CIS & Russian territories:
-Mount & Blade: Warband
-Mount & Blade: With Fire & Sword
-Eador: Genesis

To reclaim your game, just use one of the keys that came with your box. You can find more detailed information on the Reclaim your games, DRM-FREE! page to see if your key is compatible and just where to go from there.

This is just the start of something much bigger. We plan to add more titles to the list in the future - it's a long and complicated process that involves negotiating with multiple parties and a scavenger hunt to retrieve forgotten key-databases - but then, we are on a mission here, we'll do whatever it takes.

ThePunishedSnake: Uhu. I redeemed the serial for Stalker and GOG sent me a receipt with 9.19€ listed :l
Do you have the game on your shelf?

JudasIscariot: Do you have the game on your shelf?

ThePunishedSnake: Yes.
Then the redemption is probably treated like a purchase and gives you a receipt :) The important thing is that the game is on your account :)
high rated

Elmofongo: So essentially I just redeem a CD Key from a Retail PC game? The only one I have of the GOG library is Star Wars Republic Commando.

Redeem its CD key and I get a GOG version?
As of right now, you can only redeem what's listed on the redemption page. We hope to add many more titles to that page but it will take time and all that :)

HypersomniacLive: Looks like GOG's expanding what they did with TW1 and TW2, should make a number of people happy.

HypersomniacLive: So, the redemption of retail keys is treated like a "purchase" and is accompanied by an email/ receipt; that's nice.
What about the redemption of GOG gift codes? The wishlist entry has a lot more votes than the unbundling one that was granted allegedly because of high demand.
I guess gift codes are treated differently but why, I have no idea, sorry.

IAmSinistar: Big things afoot indeed. Judas was not being hyperbolic. I applaud this move, GOG.
Oh you thought this was big? How cute :D We've got even bigger things coming :)

(Don't get me wrong I think it's awesome we have this retail redemption thing going on I am just much more excited about another big thing coming up one of these days because reasons :D )

Telika: Say, Judas, I already had re-bought the STALKERS here, so, I'm redeeming codes for future giveaways.

But the process just shows me the gog code, withouzt adding it to my "gifts" lists, meaning that I have to write it down somewhere else.

So, is it possible to have these codes auto-adding to the gift side of the library when they are not being added to the owned games library ?
Please send that feedback either to Support or the "we are listening to your feedback" thread as this is kind of beyond me :)

JinseiNGC224: My question is if you add a game I do own a hard copy of to that list, but I already own a GOG version in addition to that retail, can I still redeem my retail copy as a second game code to gift to a friend?
From the redeem page:

5. I bought one of the games before you launched this page, can I get a refund?
As usual, we can't offer refunds on account of giveaways or promotions. You can always give your spare key to a friend, and point them to this page.

yarrrjun: Wait a second. So does this mean that I'll be able to reclaim my retail boxed copy of The Witcher any time soon?
The first and second Witcher games were always redeemable :)

Grargar: There you go again being such a sneaky hype machine.
Comes with the territory :D
avatar
Niteris: What if we already have the games both retail and GOG? Do we get gift codes?

I have Star Wars Republic Commando
The Witcher (it didn't come with a CD-key for some reason, despite being brand new and retail)
Star Wars Galactic Battlegrounds Saga
Star Wars Battlefront
S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Call of Pripyat

and like a ton others.
Look in the manual. The US version had one on the other side of the cover page I know this because my US copy of The WItcher had this :) I am not sure how the EU version was handled, however :)

Swonker: Used my Steam keys.
I got Clear Sky and CoP, but the SoC key is invalid.

Kandrick: None of my keys are working.
Check to make sure you aren't entering them in lower case.

Make sure you don't have a Y entered instead of a V or something like that :)
avatar
synfresh: I'm really surprised you would be able to redeem Steam keys with this. Namely which they don't apply to the first part of the op's sentence 'unsupported types of DRM'. Plus I wonder if Valve would have an issue, considering it's a steam key to be used with their service, not outside of it at a competitors service.
Not Steam keys but the CD keys the games come with :) Slight difference :)

NathosT: Same here

NathosT: It's telling me it's invalid
Make sure to write the code, not copy paste as sometimes copy pasting adds a blank space that counts as a character on the end somewhere. Also, the form is case sensitive so make sure you are entering the codes in the proper case :)

Another thing is that one or all of the STALKER games may have a game key and a multiplayer key so if you see a multiplayer key, please use that one in the reclaim form :)

Wurzelkraft: I have the exact same problem (still). I go to the game, start it up, click on "Network Play" and copy my key -> invalid on GOG. I even copied it from the registry and typed it by hand with the same result. No blank spaces.
Not sure what's going on but maybe the fact that we have quite a few people coming round to redeem keys has something to do with it?
avatar
kojocel: I contacted Customer Support to ask about STALKER codes (Steam).

CS works, but not ShoC or CoP.
They asked me to send them the keys so they can verify them manually, and I did.

I hope this isn't some trick. :-)
I have faith in GOG.
Ask yourself: what would we gain from those keys? :) So no, it's not a trick :)
avatar
Wurzelkraft: I asked support about the ShoC key but despite my clear statements I just got a "Steam keys don't work; please try it again; make sure you don't confuse O and 0" answer. I even sent the key (from the registry, so there are NO typos) in the mail, which has the correct format and is from the game's multiplayer menu. Really, GOG?
Please keep in mind that only keys from retail copies are supposed to work. That being said, we will do our best to keep updating our list of compatible codes, so please check back in the future to see if your code can be used.
Unfortunately there is no way for us to add a game manually on a per-case basis. If the code doesn't work, we're unable to help - unless we secure a previously-unknown batch of codes and add it to the system.
