That´s not 100% correct though we could accept it for some part of that water body.
Actually when sunlight hits the ocean, the water strongly absorbs long-wavelength colors at the red end of the light spectrum, as well as short-wavelength light, including violet and ultraviolet. The remaining light that we see is mostly made up of blue wavelengths.
However, the ocean may take on other hues, including red and green, if light bounces off objects floating near the surface of the water, such as sediment and algae.

Hard to pinpoint only one, considering I really loved Duke Nukem 1 and 2, as well as the Mario series of games, especially Super Mario 2 and 3. However, I would say for a recent game, I really like Trine 2. It's so beautiful and the controls are super smooth with the XBox controller. I was surprised, because normally the PC platforms I played in recent years were a bit 'off'.

Abe's Oddysee definitely, and a lot of it has to do with the fascinating setting and its intense atmosphere.

To be fair it might be difficult to find platformers that are better on a technical level then the mario games. Very few games come close in level design, graphics and controls. But a lot of games do some cool stuff or have great settings that can make them more enjoyable to some people. Also platformes is a big genre unless you narrow it down a bit. I don't count Metroid or Metroidvania games or more action based platformers because I don't consider them traditional platformers, they are more than that. But games like megaman are difficult to put in a box. For sake of this topic I count them as platformers.

My pick would be Mario Galaxy with honorable mentions to spyro 2 and Banjo-Kazooie for 3D platformers.

2D platformers: Close pick between Super Mario World, Super mario Bros., Donkey Kong Country 2 and Megaman X. (I think it's difficult to find better 2D platformers on a other console then the snes).

Super Mario Galaxy 1 is probably the best platformer I played (and I played a lot, not galaxy 2 though).
But for the record, I still consider Super Metroïd to be the best game overall.

I'd say Gods. It's a bit of a subjective choice because it's the first game I played on my own PC. We were kids and it was lots of fun playing it with my brother back then. We didn't speak English well back then and had no internet, so lots of stuff we had to find out ourselves by experimenting.

Starquake on the C64, closely followed by Impossible Mission. Honorable mentions go to Turrican (on Amiga/Atari) and Gods (very well-done DOS/PC platformer from a time when PCs weren't really made for quick action and smooth scrolling).

Great newer platformers that I played were La-Mulana, Giana Sisters: Twisted Dreams, Trine, Unepic, and Treasure Adventure Game.

The ocean being blue isn't exactly a fact either. ;)

Anyway, I wish I could participate, but I always have trouble defining "the best" of something. I've played quite a few platformers that I liked but none of them was so outstandingly awesome and perfect that it could never be surpassed by anything else.
