The best platform game you played? One you think won't be surpassed in your lifetime. Don't be afraid of saying obscure games, I doubt the most popular platform game (Mario?) is the best in the whole world.

Super Mario Galaxy 1 and 2 because its true.

I'm not a big platform game player, so I don't have a lot of experience to draw from. The one I had the most fun with is the original Lode Runner.

Elmofongo: because its true.
No, it is not. It's not like saying the ocean is blue, this is a fact.
It's just your opinion.
I think a better title for the thread would have been, which platformer does tinyE suck the least at? XD

I'll have to go with the original 'Contra'.

I know it's old and simple and jaded but it's a classic.

But if you are good at Contra, other platformers should be a walk in the park! ^^

Somehow that isn't the case here, and I'm as puzzled as you are. I always kicked ass at that game but other NES titles in the same era kick my ass. Rush'N Attack, Ninja Gaiden, Trojan were totally impossible for me. I will say this, Contra never had a time limit. Even if you were given all the time in the world, having that counter up in the corner always bothered and distracted me.

Shit it's late and if I get talking about NES I'll be here all night.

Later Gamers and Gamettes
At least i can be pretty safe with the knowledge that no one else will select my number one platform game: Deadlight. Simply because i loved it's grim depressing story and it's visuals. But most will hate it just because it's published by Microsoft and it's trendy to not like anything Microsoft.

I suck too badly at puzzle platformers, l prefer to solve my puzzles with a big gun rather than a perfectly timed string of 18 button pushes. So Metroid style games win out over Mario style for me.
That's easy, Conker's;

Just in case your wondering, it's not close quarters combat or Australia.

Blaster Master on NES.

[EDIT] Although it may very well be surpassed by it's sequel.

CMOT70: Deadlight.
Oh crap. Now I have to get that game. +1

Gog, please.
I don't really like platformers, but of the ones I have enjoyed it would say Mark of the Ninja and Suoer Mario Bros.
It depends on what of type of platformer you like playing. My personal preferance is metroidvania style, but sometimes I enjoy the simplicity of traditional platformers.

Anyhow, my best-of-breed suggestions:

Metroidvania Style: La-Mulana
Roguelike Style: Spelunky
Speedrun Style: Dustforce DX
Traditional Style: Super Mario All-Stars+World (It is cheating...but it is also my first console game!)
Aesthetic Style: Aquaria
Gun & Run Style: Metal Slug 3
Masochistic Style: I Wanna Be the Guy
Stealth Style: Mark of the Ninja
