Nix31: GOG has never been convenient, but indeed it somehow has just become less and less convenient.
True, but i think most of the ppl are just to bound by how STEAM and other Clients look and work.

I mean look at the complains i responded too, just a little bit "thinking out of the box" and you have
the same features in Galaxy. Don t get me wrong, i am quite weary of Galaxy ever since the
games did make my firewall go off for internet access.

I really dislike this, it is the reason why i test every new purchase for STANDALONE functionality.
Without Galaxy and without internet connection, for now everything is fine. Still i keep an
eye on this.

Back to the Galaxy Client, i use it for lazy reasons and as i mentioned you still OWN the games
and if you think a bit out of the box you even have the same features. Ofc it look different and is
named different. Not to mention it is sometimes buggy. But hey once again, we own our games
we buy on GoG and as long as this does not change and the client is full optional, everything
should be fine.
Now it's half a year time since the re-design but so far not much seems to have changed. Especially filters (for new games, by original release data, exclude sountracks or dlcs) seem still missing.

What a pity. I can't use the site.

Trilarion: so far not much seems to have changed
Let's see what hasn't changed:

- # of games owned still on display in the review section

- the useless "curated collections" that take up the space that used to be reserved for news haven't been changed in 6 months

- reviews are still useless (character limit, no edit option, no delete option, still no line breaks)

- gogmixes still nixed

- half of the reviews I wrote over the years are still gone

- sales are still a clusterfuck (slightly improved, but still a clusterfuck)

Well, you can listen to what I say and in the same time just ignore it. ;-)

PirroEpirote: - Search is extremely limited, missing the most useful filters (Genre and Release Date).

GHOSTMD: a litte correction to this paragraph
You literally have the Genres (sort) points in the drop down when you hover over "GAMES" button

in addition to this if you click on ALL GAMES, you have again the possibility via drop down Menu
to sort by genres (when you click again on all games next to your search bar.

For the release Date filter click on [Sort for: "favorised?"] drop down menu again
choose "Date added" or "newest first" there you have the sort by release date.

Hope that helps ;)
Thank you, I missed the genre dropdown. I'll correct my post accordingly.

About the dates, I saw the filters, but I'm not entirely sure they refer to original release dates (and not just to GOG release dates). That said, I actually want an explicit Release Date filter where I can set a search for games released, for instance, between 1999 and 2002.
Not sure if it's part of the new GOG or was part of the old GOG, but speaking of search and filter, I don't like that filtering (for instance, my library) by multiple features filters with an `OR` vs and `AND`. Example, if I check "single-player" and "controller support", I expect to see only single-player games with controller support. What I get, instead, is all single-player games and all games with controller support. That is not helpful.

I'm pretty sure Release Date refer to the original release date.

So, the old release date filters still work, even if GOG has removed their shortcut (why?!). You might find it useful to mess with this link, it filters to show all games released before 2015; the ones on the top were added more recently to GOG.

https://www.gog.com/games?release=2000_2004,2005_2009,2010_2014,p2000&sort=date&page=1

And then you can tweak it to filter games by one of their set release date intervals, such as between 2000 and 2004, for example:

https://www.gog.com/games?release=2000_2004&sort=date&page=1

Or everything released on 2004 and before that:

https://www.gog.com/games?release=2000_2004,p2000&sort=date&page=1

I have no idea why they would hide this feature. My only guess is that's it's to somehow stop people from easily looking coming to GOG only to buy old games.

The other date option still available - sorting by "oldest first" - seems broken to me. I'm pretty sure Hitman 2 isn't the oldest game on GOG, not by release date and not by time of release on this platform either.

PS: the filter by release date links that sort by date added have bugs in its sorting too, but at least it seems to properly filter to only display games of the set dates.

Oh, okay that was my mistake then, i assumed you meant the GoG Release Date.
Since the "added" Filter is just that ( think)

My personal Search pattern is per name anyway, since i got quite to picky with my games
i want to buy

Thank you for the information. It's strange that they've deliberately removed this feature. I guess you're right - they must be trying to nudge people into a casual browse of newer games. Can't say that I'm a fan of these Google-like social engineering tactics.

No mistake on your part, just me being unclear. Anyway, as informed by Nix31 above, the "Release Date" filter is just that - original release date. But still no way to filter specific years with the interface.

As for filters, I use them only rarely since, as you do, I'm usually hunting for a specific game. But still, they're an important feature for a site focused on "oldies".

Well, i think it is time for GoG to shift the focus on newer games.
Along side with hunting and preserving the old ones.

I think that has been their motto but they are sort of halfheartedly doing the former one. The latter part has been great for most part (at least for me)

If i only ever came here to buy a game i knew about, that would be fine. But probably 60-70% of my purchases have been spur of the moment buys, when i've gone down the displayed list and seen something i liked the look off.

Sadly when the new non-game things were added and all the seperate DLC's it became a bit of a waste of time simply trying to browse for something interesting, espeically as the icons used for an actual game and it's DLC are often identical and you NEED to click on the item to then find out it is DLC and not the base game etc.

A simple couple extra filters to remove DLC and Music (artbooks etc) would make browsing the store more practical, and likely drive more sales. As it is i have pretty much stopped casual purchases as it is just too time consuming with all the 'false positives' i have to go through.

They've been doing that for quite a number of years now.

They have been releasing newer indie games for about 6-7 years now.
