Lifthrasil: I usually select the poles too for these kind of captchas. And partial signs too. Usually works at the 2nd or 3rd try.
Do you consider street names to be street signs too?
Do you consider ad signs or billboards (e.g. "Car wash" or similar) to be street signs too?

Depends on the task. If it says 'all signs', then yes. If it says 'All road signs' then billboards don't count.
Same for me, most requests like cars or storefronts work on the first try, its always the street signs that take several attempts :P

MarkoH01: But there still is a bit of sign in the lower left you did not click on.
It still worked though (on that and others). I found a test site here you can use:-
https://patrickhlauke.github.io/recaptcha/

I think each puzzle has some sort of "mask" that's the solution. Major parts of the sign are required (if you don't you fail), and completely non-sign squares will fail if you do tick them. But it's possible some squares "supporting" parts like the sign-poles are marked "both" and are flexible that you will pass whether you do or don't tick them.

Edit - And yes with the street signs you will often need to do more than one even if you get the first one right. That can mislead you into thinking you got it wrong when you didn't.

Took me 5 street signs (no poles) and one additional captacha to get through it . This still is ridiculous.

Street signs are the worst reCaptcha. Very often it's not clear what a street sign even is. Sometimes I'm supposed to click on ad signs as well, which are no street signs in my definition. Sometimes there are blurry ones in the background which I'm not supposed to click on.

But no matter what I do I need 6 - 8 street sign puzzles before the reCaptcha will accept me as a human being. And sometimes even that is not enough and I get additional reCaptchas (mostly storefronts, cars or streets).

Signed!
Sorry to hear it's so troublesome for some people.

I've never had to solve a captcha to access GOG's website (I prefer Galaxy), so I can't speak for those.

I did encounter it on other websites, e.g. the Nexus mod site.
Fortunately, it mostly lets me pass without having to solve anything.

But when it does I like to employ the "think like the enemy" tactic.
What would this dumb software consider to be a street sign? Probably everything it could possibly include under that category (stop, speed limit, and other signs). Poles? Maybe not.

When I tried to solve them I'm pretty sure it took me 3 tries at most to get past them and on to the website.

Though in all honesty, I've had episodes when I just saw the words "street signs" on the captcha and just said "Nope, not worth the frustration." and clicked the "next" button until I gave me something more doable like cars.

P.S. Thank you, AB2012, for the "Captcha for Dummies" guide. :)

Signed, but it needs a lot more votes. Probably support tickets as well.
I've got same issue.
I discovered too that some days, despite all my efforts, I'm a robot. Harsh. Welcome to the future, where you're a robot without knowing it.
Every time I want to connect on GOG, I usually have to do at least 3 recaptcha puzzles (in the best days) before being able to connect. And that's the better days. I've got the feeling that if I connect to my gmail in the same time, the captcha has usually a slight chance to be easier/faster. Not always but sometimes.

Exactly ! I'm not alone to hesitate ! Is this a sign ? Is this red light a sign ? And if we see only the BACK of it, it's still a sign ? etc...
And the blurry cars in background !!! Do we have to click on them ? [yeah, we think too much to be human apparently XD]
And it's only some of the numerous issues.
And... the... damn... slow... appearing... images....
Argh. Such a pain.

Of course, if I wouldn't take care of my privacy/security, I guess things would be easier by keeping all cookies, passwords etc. But it's just a supposition.
And I suspect that the browser you're using may impact too.
But that are only suppositions.

Edit : Ironically, now I would like to have a robot being able to fill the captchas better and faster than me who is an human XD

The biggest problem in the whole thing is that a bot would obediently keep trying, but presumably humans won't. recaptcha definitely favors bots.

EDIT: Another issue: captcha is the process of using an automated system to identify other automated systems that are trying their best to appear as if they are not automated systems.

I haven't encountered the most recent iteration of the captcha myself yet (seeing as I'm always logged in), but I've seen multiple independent reports confirming that it's utter shit and keeps away more legit customers than malicious actors (who can hire third-world peasants to solve those, courtesy of Amazon). Also, forcing your customers to do unpaid work for an unrelated company is disgraceful. Cut this shit out, GOG, or give us a buck per login attempt in store credit.

Sincerely,
a professional bot herder
