Phantasie Memorial Set (-15%)
This masterpiece compiles the classic RPG trilogy, featuring party-based adventures, turn-based combat, diverse classes, and epic quests. Games from the Phantasie series played a pivotal role in shaping the RPG genre as a whole during its early days. Debuting in 1985 with the release of Phantasie I, the series continued to expand with the sequels Phantasie II (1986) and Phantasie III: The Wrath of Nikademus (1987). With their blend of turn-based combat, exploration, and character development, they set the stage for many RPGs to come.

All three games that you’ll find within the Phantasie Memorial Set are absolute must-plays for any fan of not only the role-playing genre, but gaming all together. It’s time to (re)discover the classics that started this passion for games for many of us.

And if you like to know more about the series, check out our article HERE.

BreOl72: Glad I could help. :)

Just for confirmation reasons, I made a third quick run of the numbers.
This time I gave every member of my party 3 shares (6x3 = 18 shares).

1024 gold / 18 shares = 56 gold/share (plus a rest of 16 gold)

Members "2 to 6" received 168 gold.
Member "1" received 184 gold - 16 more than the others.

So, it works every time.
I was watching a youtube review of the game (The Lost Sectors), basically they focused in the Commodore 64 version but they tested all of them. The load times from city to overworld or dungeon was a nightmare :D.
Are things better with emulation? or you tested the game with real hardware?
It also wanted a joystick and even moving in the world was a chore.

Basically I saw that the best versions in speed and easy to use UI where the DOS, AtariST and Amiga.

I own the original C64 game and I also have the original hardware available, but for these quick tests I used indeed an emulated version.

Hey, what can I say: those are the loading times, we grew up with. ;o)
And it still takes time to load. Even when emulated.
That's simply part of the experience.

I also have a "Competition Pro (USB)" joystick attached to my PC, so I can play the old games like I'm used to...however: "Phantasie" can very well be played with just the keyboard.

Amiga and Atari ST had the nicer graphics - that much is certainly true.
But honestly: I love my C64 graphics. :)

SargonAelther: I really wish that SNEG re-released Drakan: Order Of The Flame some day.
Isn't that in Sony's back yard? Japanese gaming companies have a tradition of ignoring their classics, at least on western markets. There's an entire ocean of SEGA titles that I'd love to see here for example, but most likely their focus is going to keep being on relatively newer titles.

hemo69: At the moment the offline download files for "Great Naval Battles: The Final Fury" are still missing on gog.com...
Now fixed! Wohoho.

Sometimes, the load time differences can have strategic implications.

One example I can think of is Wizardry 8. In that game, you can improve skills through use, but the catch is that certain actions (like casting long-duration spells outside of combat) won't give you any more XP for a certain amount of time (something like 5 minutes?). However, this timer is not saved, so you can cast the spell, save, reload, and cast the spell again.

On modern hardware, this reload is near-instant, making it a nice strategy. (Some players report crashes if you load too many times in one session, but I haven't encountered that issue myself.)

On period hardware, on the other hand, the reload takes long enough that this isn't that good of a strategy, and it may be better to use the time to do other things instead.

It's possible.

Sad. Hopefully some day SNEG or NightDive will succeed.
